Game 6: Bruins @ Leafs - Apr. 21st, 3:00pm - CBC, Fan 590

Both teams have won 2 of their 3 games on the road, so Leafs have road ice advantage.
Sadly, once again the refs insert themselves into the outcome by making a few weak calls, changing the momentum of the game,  then not calling blatant penalties.

Oh well the Bruins weren't going to lie down for this one, let's hope for a good outcome Tuesday.

Tavares has done his best shutting down the Bergeron line and all, but damn we need a goal from him. Marner needs to step up too in game 7.

That's true.  JT a big reason we won G3.  I think Marner is playing a bit hurt after the blocks.

But the bottom line is it's hard to win a series when you take away the other team's home ice in G1 and then lose 2/3 at home, including the first crack at elimination.

Also feel like Babcock rushes PP1 off the ice too soon, it's like once the clock hits 1 minute they will turn into pumpkins if they don't get off the ice.

Which would be fine if the 2nd unit wasn?t so terrible all season. Either spread the talent more evenly, or stop splitting the time so evenly.

Nylander also needs help on the 3rd line. The shambling corpse of Patty Marleau and Puck-Dies-On-My-Stick Brown aren?t gonna cut it. I?d rather see him between Moore and Ennis - at least they seem to have offence left.

What do you expect from Gord Dwyer? He single-handedly ran the Marlies out of the playoffs their last year on the Rock. Leafs didn't lose because of the officiating, but if I had to pick one referee not to officiate this Game 6, it would have been him.

Marner has had 2 good games and 4 pretty crappy ones. Paul Marner, you watching? He needs to be better because this isn't good enough.

The thing is, I actually think Marleau could slip in a key goal if we were on the 4th line matched against theirs.  But he should not be on the PP in any capacity.

The loss of Kadri also kind of coming home to roost.

Yeah. As much as I hate the ?It?s the refs? fault? excuse, they e been much more of a factor in this series than they should be. Way too inconsistent.

I know Marleau has been a great mentor to "his kids" but he's really not contributing anything on the ice at this point and his contract is really going to hurt the team next year. We're probably going to lose 1 or 2 of Kapanen/Johnsson/Gardiner because of it.

I think it's been better than last years series. Considering the Bruins are just generally the more physical team they're of course going to get away with more than us but all things considered I don't think I'd use it as an excuse. The Leafs didn't show up in the first two periods, that's not on the refs.

Yeah I agree it's not an excuse, you gotta expect it will happen and play through it, and it wasn't really so bad today. But it's still there. It shouldn't be there. I mean refs aren't super human, they're going to make mistakes, but making weak calls then letting blatant ones go just doesn't make sense.

Anyway I'm mostly pissed off that I was wrong about Leafs in 6. I hate being wrong.  :)

I thought Andersen and Matthews were fabulous.  Regardless of the outcome of this series, Matthews will have shut the doubters up (including me).  He has been very good.

The balance, not a good effort at all.  What particularly stuck with me was Johnsson super soft on DeBrusk on that goal.

I won?t be able to watch Game 7.  Not because they are doomed to lose, but I just can?t take another one.  They literally take time off my life expectancy.

The Leafs haven't won a playoff series against Boston since before they won their last Cup.

That will make Tuesday especially sweet. Sorry kid.

I'm more interested to see how much more whining about the refs we can do and who's going to Gardiner it up this time around.

I'd be more sympathetic to this excuse if Babcock hadn't just completely given up on doing anything at all with that 3rd line. Yeah, Kadri's good and losing him is bad. But... it's been several games that the 3rd line doesn't really look it can get anything** done -- and Babcock's answer is oh well, we'll get him back next series...

** anything involving the wingers, that is. Nylander can skate circles and get a shot from the point with some regularity.
