Game 79: Sabres @ Maple Leafs. 7:00pm. another day, another loss ?

Kind of funny to think about, but you could potentially be looking at a situation for the last game of the year where Leaf fans are cheering for the Montreal Canadiens and the Habs fans are cheering for the Leafs when they face each other.

C'mon, enough teasing, either bury these guys or tank, make up your minds!

Ugh, shades of Phaneuf meat bone there for Grabovski.

And who makes the call on that? Whether someone is in the minors because they are being 'buried' or simply because they weren't good enough to make the team?

There wouldn't be a call being made, it would just be a case of a NHL contract not coming off the cap if you sent the player down.

During the anthem Phil was yawning. Sorry Kessel, are we keeping you awake? Don't fret, the game will be over soon and you can get back to your xbox then.

<yawn>  ::)

So any player that 'makes' the team out of training camp will count against the cap all season barring injury?

Or all one way deals count against the cap.

Maybe all deals in UFA years count.

You know, every so often, Phil Kessel shows me that if he could ever find a way to be engaged in the play ALL the time, he could get to another level, which is saying something.

I don't even know if it would have much to do with who made a team out of camp. I think the way some teams are going to want to see it a contract like Redden's, once signed, will count against the cap until it expires regardless of where he plays.

Nobody had more love for her than me as a player but holy schmokes does Cassie Campbell remain an awkward as heck broadcaster.

How soon do you think the new contract 'norm' would be a tacked on 'two-way' portion?

It seems pretty weird but maybe that's just me thinking about it from the Leafs end rather than the perspective of teams without a lot of money...

Y'know what, screw them.

I don't see many players signing a two way deal.

I understand that to a point but where it gets murky for me is comparing that contract to other players. Like I said before it seems like there would have to be 'types' of contracts singled out.

I think we all know instinctively that players like Finger and Redden are being 'buried' but I can't help but think there could be instances of some players, signed to large (or semi-large) contracts, who legitimately do not make their respective teams. Is someone from the NHL going to step in and tell those teams that they have to count those players against their NHL cap? Will there be some kind of guidelines as to what type of players qualify?
