How 'bout Kadri?

He may have cooled off in terms of point production but defensively he's great.  He's been on in the final minutes of games with the lead lately.  Also, when forechecking last night I noticed him get bounced into the boards repeatedly and still hung onto the puck.  I think all his negatives are really being ironed out.

Yeah I think Kadri has finally learned what it takes to stick in the NHL.  He no longer feels he has to dispy doodle on every play to try and get a goal, but instead can contribute by not letting the other team get a goal.  His points will come.

Random observations from a long time lurker:

- Komisarek looks good out there.  I don't care what he gets paid.

- I'm calling Gustavsson "Monster" from now on.

- Phaneuf is a legitimate Norris contender.

- Grabovski and Lupul have become my favorite players.

- I watch a lot of game feeds from the other teams on Center Ice.  Everybody talks about our speed.  Two words: Jason Allison.

- Nice depth on this roster now (way to go Burke).

- As Armstrong and Bozak return it will be interesting to see what happens.  I vote for keeping Kadri up, which means, barring trades, Lombardi would have to go to the 4th line, don't you think?
Kessel-Connolly-Lupul
Kadri/MacArthur-Grabovski-Kulemin
Kadri/MacArthur-Bozak-Armstrong
Lombardi-Steckel-Brown

- That's a nice 4th line.  They would have to get more minutes.

- Some of the other playoff contenders (Winnipeg, Washington, Buffalo, Florida, Pittsburgh) are showing signs of weakness and I am slowly grasping the possibility that we might actually make the freakin playoffs.

- What happened to the Ottawa Senators? Wow.  I am impressed.  I'm a SF 49er season ticket holder and it is reminiscent of what they have done this year.

GO LEAFS GO

He [Burke] revealed at least two teams in search of a new GM had approached him in 2011 about releasing senior vice-president of hockey operations David Nonis. But Burke said Nonis is content here and has no summer window, unlike vice-president Dave Poulin, assistant GM Claude Loiselle and player personnel director Rick Dudley.

Glad to hear Nonis isn't going anywhere, as one of the teams current strengths is its strong management team.

Ditto.  I see Nonis as the future GM to take over when Burke decides he wants to move up into some other higher role / semi retirement.

It depends on if Burke delivers anything of value. If the team misses the play offs every year under Burke when he decides to move on I don't see the ownership handing the reigns to his protege. Why would you.

No surprise but;

jonasTSN1050
Jonas Siegel

Lupul and Kessel have been named to the All-Star team.

Congrats to 'em.

Edit: Joining Phaneuf.

I love the way Burke put it that the organization pays good money for the priviledge of saying no, you can't talk to him.  ;D

Nonis has been a GM before. I think they could make a decision based on his own resume.

Was watching the Boston, Montreal game and the analysts sounded pretty confident that the winter classic next year would be Toronto at Detroit.  Honestly I am thinking of doing a road trip if that happens but I probably can't afford it.

Just looking at the standings, the Leafs need to go on a run like the Senators have (8 out of 9). Sens have given themselves a nice 7 point cushion over the 9th place team with that run.

Its good the have those points in the bank, but it is still somewhat illusory.  The Sens have played at least two more games than each of the 6 teams trailing 'em.

Being 4 points away from the league lead still looks nice though.

True but wins are wins.  Like I said it's nice the Leafs have 2 games in hand but it won't mean much if they don't win them.  Tomorrow's game against Sens is huge given Leafs can make up ground and still have 3 games in hand.

We're well aware of the implications....possible death blow game.

I really hope Auld doesn't play tomorrow...

EDIT: But if we do lose, we played our backup and it was the second half of a back-to-back.  Excuses armed and ready.
