Proog 'Breaking' is way over-used on twitter.

- I do like McLaren though.

Then you're in for a treat because we already signed Orr.  You get the same thing only twice.  You may not see that thing show up as skill, but hey whatever.

I know what they are. I still think there's a place for them though most probably disagree with me.

To be fair he's pretty good at staged fights (especially when the team has a lead and it can only help the other team) and taking bad penalties. Plus he's a Carlyle favourite - perhaps he can offset the "loss" of Grabovski, at a fraction of the price!

Pretty stupid to do this and announce it on UFA day.  He's an RFA they could have waited to resign him and not make it their first announcement.  Aggravating to say the least.

Maybe you put a great deal more stock in the importance of annnouncements than the Leafs do.

I'm with you, Doctor.  Call me crazy, it seemed to work fairly well last year.

Lots of hate on here today.  LOTS!!!

Not just in the announcement but in actually focusing on this re-signing.  He wasn't going anywhere, no need to work on this contract.

Enh. A lot of really minor signings are going to happen today, and for a lot of teams, it'll be the first move they announce. No sense getting worked up about it. That's just how things work - the signing come out when they come out. There's a number of parties that could leak them. Agents leak signings. Players leak signings. Other members of teams front offices leak signings. It happens.

The Leafs aren't in the business of winning.  They are in the business of shoving mediocrity out on the ice and parading it as caviar.  30 minutes into UFA season means absolutely nothing, but the roster is a mess right now and it was barely a strong team in the first place.

A) There was likely no focus on re-signing him. GMs and front offices are quite capable of working on multiple fronts. I guarantee you there's no way this got in the way of anythign else they wanted to do. In fact, this was likely done during some down time between other business. Which bring me to B) How much work do you really think went into this one? A handful of short phone calls and a bunch of emails? This was hardly a hard fought, intense negotiation.

What?  Good grief, even the stalwarts on this site are drinking the cool-aid!

Barely a strong team?  They just drafted 21'st, for crying out loud.  Now, my math isn't so good, but I think that means they were - gasp - Top 10!

Where's the nutman when you need him.

Exacatly.  They have a business to run, and these deals are of the routine, 'keeping the lights on', variety.

It's been gone over numerous times, but the odds of them repeating a team ES SH% of 10-11% is very, very low.  Only a handful of teams in the last 5 or so years have done so.  Which means next season their goaltending will likely have to be even better to make up for that anticipated regression.

Also, it was a short season.  Over 82 games this past year's team likely regresses further to the mean than the season let them.

On what basis can you conclude they 'likely' regress?  If I have a population of 82, I feel pretty darn confident that I can extrapolate the results of 48 case sample across the entire population.

Also, weren't you just arguing that Grabovski's 2009-2010 point totals should have been extrapolated across an 82 game schedule?
