Serious question.  If, in the off-season, we could:

1.  Trade Kessel for a proven starting goaltender,
2.  Trade Phaneuf for a 1st,

would you do it?

1. no
2. I would be willing to package Phaneuf with out pick for a number 1/2 overall pick but my impression is that the draft isn't very deep this year

1. No, the guy is only 24 and is gonna hit 80 pts this year. Haven't had 80 pts Leaf since 30 year old Sundin.
2. Yes. Guy is a pylon.

Edit: Just managed to trade Captain Peanut for Colaiacovo in NHL12 who proceeded to get injured in the his first game for the remainder of the season. I still think I won that trade.

Goaltenders are extremely unreliable:  Look at Luongo being bashed after a decade of being at the top of the heap stats-wise.  Look at Bryz signing a billion dollar contract and having a worse save percentage than the leafs goalies. Then of course there's a guy like Toskala who looked decent, or at least equivalent to Nabokov in San Jose but washed out in Toronto. 

I just don't know what goalie in the league I could trade for and count on that goalie being a persistent rock behind the Toronto defense.  Maybe Lundquist?  So, basically, no I wouldn't do it.  I'd try to improve all other aspects of the team first, develop the younger goalies and pick up UFA goalies if I needed to.

I still believe that the Leafs have a very solid pool of goalie prospects with Gus, Reimer, Scrivens, Rynaas and Owuya. Hopefully one of these guys can be for real, but it will take time.

Dunno. I smell a winning tear and Leafs just missing the play offs. Thus, another middling prospect and Burke saying how happy he is that the guys responded to Carlyle at the end of the season. He believes in this group.

No, I think it's pretty clear you are predicting a worst case scenario and are making that known in every thread.

To be honest, I don't really see the point in being pessimistic until that comes to pass. If there's no hope for things to improve then what's the point of following a sports team, let alone the Leafs?

Yep. It's a pretty safe bet that when the Leafs (and by extension, Leaf Nation) has an opportunity to get the shaft, we all lube up. I mean how
many times has this happened? Our #1 goalie goes down and BB picks up a waiver has-been and he turns into Bernie Parent? We get a minor leaguer throw a hat trick in the last game to screw a Top 5 pick. We trade our First-Rounder (well...2 actually) and we promptly drop to 29. I was totally shocked we didn't win the lottery that year.

I mean, for Heaven's sake, if we didn't want to cry, it would be laughable.

It seems to me that some are taking actual delight in the adversity this team has faced, supposed fans that do nothing but point out negative aspects as if it somehow is lost on the masses, like Kurtz bearing torch and sword in the darkness.

I mean, yeah get it out of your system if you need to but once in a blue moon give some props?

It can't really hurt, unless complaining and noting every bad touch is the only thing keeping you going, not sure what they're a fan of in that case.
