groundskeeper willie said:Schenn could be considered a 'core' player depending on your definition. 'Core' doesn't necessarily mean superstar, and I think a guy like Schenn is as close as they can realistically expect, especially as they need to save money desperately..

MacArthur, Schenn, Connolly for Getzlaf and Blake.
That has 3 players under contract for next year going to the Ducks. If the Ducks want the cheaper Grabovski instead of Connolly than so be it. Both deals work with the cap.

Colborne/Kadri would be a must in a Getzlaf deal.

I was actually thinking that after I hit the post button.
I was thinking of the Leaf lineup after the deal:
Lupul / Getzlaf / Kessel
Kulemin / Connolly (Grabovski) / Frattin
Kadri (Lombardi) / Bozak / Armstrong
Boyce (Crabb) Steckel / Brown
MacArthur, Connolly and Colborne for Getzlaf.
Still enough depth for a 2nd deal later.

Yeah. The whole "core play for core player" thing makes me believe nothing will happen on their "big 3" until the summer.
I was thinking a deal with Carolina for Staal, or Columbus for Carter would be more likely than us being able to get one of these guys.
But I hope Murray goes for quantity over quality, and TO gets in on it. Kulemin, Kadri and Schenn could be pieces that might fit the "core" ideals.

I think the Phaneuf trade has spoiled us![]()

Mac + Connolly + Colborne would be around $10M. Getzlaf is $5.3.
There is NO WAY, they are adding that much salary, they can't afford where they are as it is. Not to mention I don't think they are looking for veteran depth like Mac and Connolly.
Not that it's going to happen, but if it did it would be 2-4 of these:
Schenn, Kulemin, Kadri, Colborne, Frattin, Gradiner, Aulie, Franson, Gunnarsson, 1st, 2nd.
Guaranteed.

McPwnage said:Honestly who is ok with moving luke schenn at the moment? Given the way he plays, our depth on d and with prospects and log jam I am really starting to think schenn is overated.
hopefully burke and murray still bffs despite the lupul/gardiner trade

He has definitely become expendable.

Expendable might not be the right word, but I wouldn't have any issue if he was involved in a trade that brought in a player of Getzlaf's caliber.
