Gleason and Volchenkov on buyout waivers

I'M SO EXCITED!!! THIS MEANS THE MONEY IS GOING SOMEWHERE ELSE EITHER THROUGH TRADE OR UFA SIGNING TOMORROW!!!!

Now that makes more sense why the Leafs would be interested in Georges...

In the end, although he only had two years left, I think it's the right move.

The right move in all of this was still to buy out Liles instead of Komisarek last year but this is the right move.  Gleason is a garbage defenseman who is at best a #6 and is making 4 million dollars.  This doesn't mean that the Gorges deal is moving forward but it does open up a spot on the blueline to either bring someone in or just give it a shot it Granberg/MacWilliam

Wow.  Well, this is something I hoped for simply to give $3.1 MIL in cap space but I really didin't expect Nonis would do it.  The whole JM Liles, Komisarek, Gleason buyout specter will haunt Leaf fans for a long time but oh well.

After this move the #leafs only have 11 players under contract and ~23.6 mill to spend. Team should be really busy tomorrow.

Also, this is the 8th straight season of the Leafs having a buyout on the books.

Agreed Busta. I'm confident one of the Marlies could match his production.

I don't really even care about the cap hit. Getting Gleason off the roster is the right move.

Agreed.  Its time to give that spot to one of our prospects:  Granberg, Percy, MacWilliam, Finn, or Nilsson.  They will battle for it at camp.

I actually liked Gleason, but not the contract.  Gleason is cheaper to buyout than Liles would have been, right?
I didn't think he was the big problem on the defence last year..oh well..I would of waited to buy him out only when they become a contender.
