Nylander played all season last year alongside Matthews to build on his portfolio prior to the end of his entry level. It was never at the level of Marner from the 2nd half of last season to current. I'm consistently baffled that you and a few others think they're comparable talents.

Cool how you had to specify that only Marner?s second half of the season should count. And also specified that Nylander spent the whole season with Matthews when he was injured for 20 games.

Didn't Marner play with Matt Martin for a stretch at the beginning of the season, and made him actually look like an NHL player? Since then, he's done nothing but make other players better. The powerplay runs through him. JVR put up goals basically by just putting his stick on the ice. He consistently takes over games, regardless of his linemates. While Matthews was out, Nylander looked lost.

Nylander also made Martin look like an NHLer. You?re also severely underrating JvR?s abilities.

Look at Zach Hyman?s shooting percentage when Nylander is his centre in 2016 and tell me again how Nylander doesn?t make anyone better. Nylander?s defensive pair was often Roman Polak.

Sample size. Zach Hyman is playing with Tavares this year, and his shooting percentage is no doubt lower. Is this because Nylander is a better centre than Tavares? Give me a break.

Watch the games. This isn't baseball, where you can compare stats in a vacuum.

Anybody telling herman to watch the games isn't watching the game day threads.

I love herman (platonically), he's great. But he often makes arguments with his heart, instead of his head, and finds stats to justify.

I gave you 0 stats, man, and pointed out context for why I would argue Nylander is comparable to Marner.

What was all this shooting percentage/hyman 2016 stuff about then?

Do you have mod-stats to show what my posts per 60 is?

Actually your (and everyone else in the top-10 for this) time spent on the forums is embarrassingly shown in the stats section, so yes. It's about 3.5 posts / 60 minutes while logged in.

This is all situations though. During GDT-situations I'm sure it's much higher.

The way Vegas played is pretty much why a lot of hockey people don't take raw Corsi seriously.

The way the Leafs shoot is clearly a weaponization of the data they've been getting from Clear Sight. They are last in the league in slapshots from the point, and the first in tip/deflections (I can't remember who tweeted this).

Clear Sight's website (which is a slow load) shows rankings for their particular measurements from last season (https://www.csahockey.com/copy-of-current-team-rankings-mar-3). Interestingly enough, the Leafs show up well here, even though their CF% was generally considered middling. If you're not familiar with Clear Sight, it's an analytics company from the guy who coined the term Royal Road, and there's a bit of a spotlight on it at this post from last week.

It's all about getting to front of the game and trying to cash in on the chaos and rebounds.

Tough game to watch, overall. Leafs started out great and then just degenerated into a mess of icings, stretch passes and weak dump ins. They look so much better when they actually are allowed to, you know, carry and skate with the puck. Oh well, another win though ;)
