His moves:<snippies>

Trade 2 2nds, 4th for Bolland
Buyout Grabovski (.62 ppg)
Sign Bozak (.53 ppg) for 5 x $4.2m deal
Let MacArthur (.53 ppg) walk into 2 x 3.5m deal
Sign Clarkson (.4 ppg) for 7 x $5.25m deal

Upgrade in goal, no movement at center and defense, and weaker on the wing. Took a bottom-three possession team and let go two of its better possession players, extended one of its worst. What am I missing?

what, waitaminit. What happened with The General?!!!! whatdidImiss?

Still think the Leafs need to shift out Liles to create some breathing room. Need a trade to improve at RD likely.

It baffles me that fans think a seven-year deal for a 29-year-old player with a career high of 46 points is a great idea but so it is.

James Mirtle ‏@mirtle 6m
Leafs lose considerable speed not having Grabovski, Frattin, MacArthur and Komarov up front. Another wild card element.

@Michael_Traikos Can he elevate his career shooting percentage by 40% every year or just that one?

James Mirtle ‏@mirtle 4m
The good of Clarkson is that he excelled playing with good players and can be a strong possession player

TSNBobMcKenzie: NSH agrees to 4 year, $12M deal with Viktor Stalberg.

I would vastly prefer this deal to any 5+ year deal for Clarkson ...

Not me, I prefer Clarkson for more money.

Chicago fans that I know said that Stalberg was lazy.  That's why I jumped off his band wagon.  He seemed to prove them right in the playoffs.

This is very relevant point as the speed was key element of the Leafs succes last year.

He also skates with his head down. He's going to get rocked one of these days.

Remember when the team was locking up the playoff spot and Burke said "sometimes you only set the table, don't get to eat dinner" or something?

Nonis just vomited all over the table.

So, are we prepared to reopen yesterday's debate as to whether Nonis is an "idiot" or whether he qualifies as a "drooling idiot"?

His moves:
Trade Lombardi
Bury Connolly
Trade Brown
Acquire McLaren
Trade for O'Bryne
Trade Frattin, Scrivens, pick, $500k cap space for Bernier
Trade 2 2nds, 4th for Bolland
Buyout Grabovski (.62 ppg)

Added one of the best puck possession forwards in the league?

Man, Clarkson better become a consistent 25+ goal guy, or that contract is going to worst contract in the league bad.

Clarkson is an animal.  I think he produces good numbers and even if he doesn't he will be out there on one leg throwing himself at defenders on every shift.

Kind of like ... Grabovski?

Yes. Exactly like Grabovski. Except, of course, that Grabovski doesn't hit anyone and Clarkson does they're very similar in terms of hitting.

Yeah and Clarkson has better hands and fights almost anyone.

What exactly does "better hands" mean? Surely not that 97 goals in 426 games is more than 94 in 367.

so the wings get weiss on a nice deal

but alfie for 5.5?  what are they thinking?
I'll take Bozak for $700k less....and isn't Alfie's only 3.5 with 2 in bonuses...that's a good deal for a guy who is still a quality player...<hides from Leafs fans>

Yes. Because David Clarkson will want a suana in his downtown TO condo, and those things are a ^&$%@ to install.

Agreed. And a Kadri-Lupul second line will need that.

But it's at a very high cost, and I think we're spending more for less on the wing than we were at the end of the season.

That remains to be seen how the team shapes up and plays come October and beyond.  If Clarkson can score 25+ goals then it's worth the money.

Bozak needed to see that no team was offering him the kind of cake he was hoping for to move.

I'm not satisfied with the changes down the middle.  Completely average.  This is Toronto and we deserve a 1C of prominence.

Per damien cox....

Leafs looking to sign D T.J. Brennan, played with BUFF and FLA last year. 24 years old with some offence in his game.

Glad the Leafs signed someone at least from free agency who can aid the club.  Having Clarkson will no doubt be an added bonus for the Leafs (a player who possess good puck ability, is physical, and an overall good skater).

Too bad the team loses speed, in general. Let's hope this feature doesn't prove too critical for them.  It certainly was to the Leafs advantage last season and in the playoffs.
