An excellent speech by Jeff Flake the Republican Senator from Arizona today.

Nonsense.  An excellent word vomit from a guy who hours later voted to provide immunity to banks from lawsuit.

Make depressions great again!!!!

Conspiracy against the United States
Conspiracy to launder money
Failing to make financial declarations (x7)
Being an unregistered agent of a foreign government (Ukraine) Making false statements to law enforcement (x2)

Just the 12 counts against Manafort (and his assistant).

It is 2017 and they are re-litigating the cause of the Civil War in the White House.

The people running the country can't even say that the people who led an incredibly violent and bloody rebellion against the United States weren't good citizens of the United States. A war over slavery, they say, should have been avoided through "compromise" on both sides.

I'm sort of running out of words for how ridiculous this all is.

Trump's actually put a lot of things in perspective for me -- slavery, white supremicists, probably Nazi concentration camps too --- you know, there's blame to be had on both sides.  The world would be a better place if we could only compromise on those kinds of things.  Of course, people kneeling at football game can't be tolerated, but we can compromise on slavery.

Also, there's blame on both sides when a white guy drives a vehicle into someone with the intent to injure/kill them, but, when it's a minority? Pure evil.

Aside from it being a morally repugnant position to take, it's also just flat out historical ignorance.

People smarter than me have made this point but there were constant, repeated attempts to "compromise" on the issue of slavery. The 3/5's compromise was literally written into the constitution. The North repeatedly offered the south could keep their slaves if they agreed that slavery, as an institution, couldn't spread to new states out west.

Lincoln even said that if he could have kept the country together without freeing slaves he would have. The South started the war because they thought Lincoln would try to end slavery.

That's what offends me so much about the modern political climate. It's not even a right-left schism or a racist-not racist schism. It's people who demand that their ignorance be taken seriously and look at knowledge as simply being a different side.

Methinks the education system needs a bit of work down there.

Just so we are clear, he's implying that places with electricity and "the light" don't have sexual assaults right?

Who knew that Enrique Iglesias's song "Don't turn of the lights" was a cry for help?

The Light of Righteousness, if you will. And only fossil fuels can provide this light, this electricity.

Departing Twitter employee deactivates Trump's account

Good man/woman

It's true; Trump's ludicrousness and complete lack of self-awareness is perfect comedy/satire. Monty Python, Peter Sellers, George Orwell- all of them at their highest level would not compare. How is this an actual living, breathing human being?

Today I Learned: one of Trump?s biggest financial
backers is on the hook with the IRS for $7B in back taxes, and he?s been lobbying to remove the IRS head (via Trump?s authority) to quash the ruling.

This is how to posterize someone (politely):
Danica Roem (D) was elected into the House of Delegates last night for Virgina. She is the 2nd ever out transperson to be elected in a US Statehouse and beat out Republican incumbent Bob Marshall, who is perhaps best known for his failed bathroom bill and has referred to himself as the 'chief homophobe'.

Bob Marshall refused to debate Danica Roem on the grounds that she was transgendered.  I believe he was afraid of catching "the gay".

Glad to see that she won because she actually ran a campaign that wasn't entirely built on The Bible and hatred.

Chris Hurst, news anchor and then boyfriend of reporter Alison Parker who was gunned down on live television alongside her cameraman Adam Ward, ran and won his seat in Virginia?s House over Republican incumbent and NRA booster Joseph Yost.
