NYI out of the playoff picture at the moment @ 25th in the league in P%...4-4-2 in their last 10, and currently enjoying a 2 game losing streak.

Well that confirms that. Silly they couldn't use an emergency call up on him.

I guess the bright side is that it still allows him to be an option for an emergency recall later in the season if needed. And considering our goalies and our luck...

I'm more and more convinced it's back problems. My wildly speculative guess is that he's headed for off-season disc surgery of some kind. Back health is voodoo so my second totally unsubstantiated guess is that the DeustcheDoc is somebody who has some kind of non-US-approved amulet-based treatment for phantom back pain.

I hope he gets the best back surgeon if he has a problem. Look at Tiger, he went to 4 different surgeons before finding the fix at a clinic in Texas. I met the owner by chance and he told me that he said to Tiger, that if had come to him first he could have fixed him years earlier.

How is that not a penalty though? I thought it when it happened, I think it now. I understand the rationale, "that's how the game is called", that should be a penalty. Ref was right there.

Does it surprise you that he’s out tonight? I don’t know what the secret is but he’s looked awful most of the year. No idea why he came back. He’s been sluggish and definitely not the same. Team in a whole plays better without him. Sit him out till the new year.

Kampf with Marner, that's an interesting combo. Whatever they do, they should not touch that 3rd line.

As for back problems, that's my guess too. I've dealt with both upper back/neck (disc/nerve root compression) issues and lower back issues (some kind of chronic soft tissue/muscle problem that no one can figure out). I can't imagine playing any sport at a high level when those kinds of problems are flaring up.

So NHL teams now have a "how to crosscheck" video to take Matthews out of a game .. ?

That ref/linesman got a real good look too ... what a proud day for him and his no-call.

Bet the insurance company is glad it is not an 8 year contract.

Players who like to cross check are going to cross check there anyway, because that’s where the padding is sparse. Matthews historically wears some additional gear there but this one caught him more on the side between components.
