Jake Gardiner

I mentioned this last year or the year before can't remember to the same extent. I like Luke and what he brings each and every night but he is not a top rated pairing guy. I said it before he doesn't have the offensive game and albeit it has improved it will never be his strong point and the one thing I have stated about his game is his skating. He's not a great skater and at times he gets beat because of it. If I was Burke I would've been trying damn hard to get Bogosian from Atlanta/Jets because last year he was not happy there and wanted out. Someone replied to my comment and said they would have to start with Evander Kane. Wake up whoever you were. Bogosian in my opinion is an all round better player than Luke with a lot more upside. I would make that deal straight across in a heartbeat. The contract is not that bad considering some of the contracts out there. May seem steep now but in the last years it will seen fairly cheap.

I too enjoy saying words.

Saw Wilson interviewed on Leafs Today. He said that he thought Gardiner was the best puck moving dman in camp. They tried him on the PK and don't feel he's strong enough there yet so he'll be playing even strength and PP only to start the season.

Schenn is actually a pretty good PK'er, but I still hate the fact that we used a top 5 pick on a guy that has the mobility of a 40 year old vet.

Really? That's not the Schenn I've been watching. He may not have Gardiners wheels but I haven't seen anything to suggest what you're saying.

His skating is one of the things that stands out when I've seen him play. I may possibly be in the minority but my impression of him is that his mobility is below average for a young NHL player.

That's a little different than your previous description.

It was a hyperbole. But he is pretty damn slow for a guy of his age that was a top 5 pick.

I know it will seem trite and perhaps almost cliche for this board, but Gardiner really does remind me of Kaberle in many ways. For his age he is insanely calm and cool in pressure situations, he is a great skater and makes a great outlet pass. I am amazed watching him play.

I am sorry that Franson is sitting out, but Gardiner is the way to go.

I think taking out Komi and placing in Franson is the way to go.

Actually, I kind of see a different player than Kaberle. Kaberle was more fluid I think but that desciption is not meant to take anything away from Gardiner.... He reminds me of someone )I can't put my finger on it) but not Kabs.

Not that he ever becomes 1/100th of the player, but I think you are looking for Niedermayer.

Yeah. Maybe... Housley? I mean the good Housley?

Sad to say it but Komi has actually played better than Schenn IMO, despite the penalties tonight. estHe has battled harder along the boards and hasn't been as shaky with the puck. I think Luke will turn it around, but that's my honest evaluation.
Phaneuf and Gardiner are clearly the two Leafs dmen that can be difference makers in a game, with Liles not that far behind.
Gunner is simply solid all-around. I just don't worry when he's on the ice, which is a nice feeling.
Gardiner needs some experience under his belt, but looks like he'll be moving up the depth chart FAST!

Komisarek and Schenn have been interchangeably bad. I wouldn't call either one better or worse than the other.

The only difference between them is that Komisarek's play has basically been par with what we've come to expect from him, while Schenn looks like he took the summer off.

I agree 100% regarding Dion/Gunnar though.

And to think the short and skinny on Lupul in that trade was "injury-prone salary dump".  If he can stay healthy and keep this chemistry with Kessel going he can earn his 4.25M and then some.

Ya he's nothing like Kaberle. Kabs at his best was an incredible passer and had a rare kind of spatial awareness that not many people have. Gardiner's a much more dynamic skater than Kaberle too.

He reminds me a bit of Brian Campbell, minus the high end production that Campbell was putting up a few years back.
