Jays Down the Stretch

Saunders is still listed on the 15 day DL so it doesn't open a spot on the 40 man roster, just the 25 man active roster. Rosters expand on September 1st anyway so it's not much of a loss.

They'll likely move him onto the 60 day now. No reason not to. They're probably just considering their options about who to add in his place.

Randy Wolf has reportedly asked to either be promoted or granted his release. Given how well he pitched this year in Buffalo it wouldn't shock me if he was promoted to Toronto as rotation insurance.

Well Randy Wolf will be in a major league rotation and start on Saturday, but it won't be for the Jays. Wolf has been traded to Detroit for cash considerations.

Look like we are building the future for the Tigers?good for them.. as the Price was indeed right.

Hmm, there is nothing "future" about Randy Wolf.  It is pretty cool though that he'll celebrate his 39th birthday on Saturday by making his Tigers debut.

Cecil hasn't given up a run since giving up 4 to the O's on June 22. Nice to see him bounce back after the rough start to the season.

3-1 so far on the home-stand.  We have officially hit meaningful baseball in September.  The Jays have 31 games left on the schedule and going .500 would get them right around 90 wins.

Baltimore is now 11.0 games back of the Jays so they are likely done but this upcoming series would put a nail in that coffin if the Jays can win/sweep the series.  The 7 games against the Yankees will be big for the division.  At this point a split would probably be enough to hold off the Yankees but winning at least one of the two series would be great.

Marcus Stroman makes his Lansing debut tomorrow night.

Its September so the rosters have expanded.  As a result  Pompey, Kawasaki, Tepera, Francis and Loup have joined the team.

There is potential for Thole and Stroman to  join in the future.

For reference - on this day in 1993:

East                         W L PCT GB
Toronto Blue Jays 82 63 .566 -
New York Yankees 81 65 .555 1.5
Baltimore Orioles 80 65 .552 2.0

The Jays' magic number to clinch a playoff spot is 8 (any combo of Jays wins + Twins losses)

For the division it's 14.

I'm the devil.

Because I get a kick out of this:

Today:

East         W L PCT GB
Toronto 84 62 .575
NY        80 65 .552 3.5

Today in 1993:

East                         W L PCT GB
Toronto Blue Jays 84 63 .571 -
New York Yankees 82 67 .550 3.0
Baltimore Orioles 80 67 .544 4.0

Also the win last night gets them up to .500 on the road.
