Robertson sitting. Not sure I see the logic in that one, especially since he's been better than McMann. Guess we'll see what happens. At least it looks like they're going to change up the PP finaly.

Bottom line he has 1G that was a meaningless goal in a blowout loss over 9 games.

At the same time, Holmberg has had numerous games where he has looked bad whereas Robertson has just been ineffective.

Reaves hasn't really done anything this season and is about to play his 8th game.

I like the PP splits. I don't love the lines.

Agreed. Robertson wouldn’t be my first choice to take out, but he also hasn’t exactly cemented his spot in the lineup, either.

Looking forward to everyone getting healthy, so the team actually has options.

Interesting split on the PP lines. I think it also might be time to try splitting Matthews/Marner. The idea that they play together as a given is kind of ridiculous.

Also, our bottom six looks awful...

*Edit: Also looking at Winnipeg's team, when you have Alex Iafallo as a fourth line winger you know you've built a pretty solid forward group. Looks like Perfetti's coming into his own.

I'm still racking my brain trying to figure out a) what Reaves has done to stay in this lineup and b) what Reaves actually does on the ice, other than trying to keep his balance

Yeah the bottom 6/depth has been a real issue so far and that has been compounded by the top 6 being iffy and the powerplay being dreadful.

Reaves/Patches/Robertson/Kampf/Holmberg/Lorentz

47GP 4G 4A -9

Not that plus minus is the be all end all but the bottom six doesn't score much and it gets scored on too much to boot.

3C is a glaring problem right now, particularly with Tavares playing the way he is to start the year.

I imagine it's more of a stylistic choice. Pacioretty and Robertson don't really fit there. Holmberg's been meh. Hopefully once Dewar is back he'll give Berube a more 4th line-y option to start inserting for Reaves.

But yeah Reaves really has been meh even for a "enforcer" type. Don't think he's even dropped the gloves yet this season and from a physical/hits perspective he hasn't done much either. At least he hasn't been as painfully bad as last season's start I guess.

Oh I'd have no issue if he was still a strong, consistent forechecker and physical presence on the ice irrespective of any fighting aspect. He's just done none of those things. Robertson at least has driven the play and created chances, even if the traditional numbers look awful. He's a heck of a lot better than a stagnant, non-physical Reaves

Yes...Robertson hasn't scored enough and has flubbed a number of chances. Maybe pressing, so a game in the pressbox might benefit him. But based on recent play, I don't see how he sits and McMann is in. He has looked like he's been coasting the last couple of games. Robertson at least is making things happen.

Reaves...no comment.

I would like to see a Matthews/Marner divorce. My proposed lines:

Knies - Matthews - Domi
McMann - Tavares - Nylander
Roberston - Kampf - Marner
Lorentz - Holmberg - Reaves - Pac

Are you guys ready for the 45-minute pre-game silence show?

Would like Nick to get a shot with someone like Nylander or Marner.

This is kind of the reason I was expecting

As for why Reaves checks in with relative frequency while literally better players (overall) sit: Berube talked about players having roles. There aren't really any other players in Reaves' niche. At least the coaching staff has also determined there are games that niche is not really required.

So because he's small, Berube isn't go to play him against big, playoff teams. So I guess NR asks for a trade again hearing that he won't be in Berube's plans for the playoffs????
