Justin Schultz

I am disappointed, but maybe even a little bit happy for Edmonton. Except our jokes about them are going to be half as relevant as they were yesterday.

Oh well, back to drinking.

What is this opinion based on?

The constant media attention he's demanded over the past few weeks. Don't you remember when we were all like "Man, I just want to sit back and enjoy a couple of beers this summer" and Justin Schultz took to the airwaves demanding that hockey fans pay attention to him because of how awesome he is and how who he signs with is a really big deal? The awful tragedy where he put guns to the heads of prominent hockey journalists' heads and demanded they tweet out updates to his situation? Then when he followed that up by lobbying for and getting the Canadian Parliament to pass a law requiring people to follow those same journalists when they weren't even in session?!?

Justin Schultz: History's Greatest Monster.

Any early favorites in the Arron Asham sweepstakes?

I'm told he has a short list of 30 teams and will be hosting a chili cook off to decide which team he signs with.

I guess Melnyk couldn't convince Schultz to take a Stanley Cup Discount.  :(

Yeah and Bobby Ryan probably made fun of Shultz on twitter about his "big" decision day because he doesn't know what kind of guy Shultz is compared to you. You must know him a lot better.

I guess Ryan has seen his character first hand. I doubt he would have said anything if Justin was just such a saint. After all, the NHLPA needs to stick together right now, don't they?

You mean:

What time is "the decision" Justin Schultz edition on tomorrow? Want to make sure I tune in.

That's "making fun" of Justin Schultz in your opinion? That's not making fun of the hype which, as per my post, was in no way generated by Justin Schultz? Yikes.

Either way, I don't have the slightest idea if Bobby Ryan knows Justin Schultz. I don't think Schultz would have gone to any camps with the Ducks and keep his college eligibility so they may not have ever crossed paths in their lives for all I know.

Either way, you're reading way too much into what Ryan said there. I mean, just leaps and bounds.

I haven't said thing one about Justin Schultz being a saint. I don't know him from Adam. He might be a great guy, he might be a terrible one. All I've said is that nothing that he's done reveals himself to be a bad guy. I'm refusing to pass the moral judgment that others seem really quick to make, not substituting it for one of my one.

If you look at Devante Smith-Pelly's twitter, he has Bobby Ryan's quote and at the end it says......the suspense is killing me.

Yeah, I'm sure they both kept that on their twitter accounts in an endearing way. Weren't making fun of Schultz at all.

Maybe a little, but, really, what they were making fun of was the media drive circus. If you'll notice, they don't really say a thing about Schultz that isn't related to the ridiculous media coverage that others created.

Wow.

Any chance you can hand me the hot sauce? You know, if you're reaching that far anyway.

To be honest, since they guy isn't a Leaf, I couldn't care less if he's a stand up guy or not. I think the circus that happened is going to piss off players but to be honest, I don't know if I would have did things any differently myself if I were in the guy's shoes.

What bothers me more about the whole thing is that about two years ago, finding out that we lost out on Schultz would have really pissed me off but now I'm just indifferent. It bothers me more that I'm getting used to missing out on potential players than if we miss out on them or not.

But that's just it. Schultz didn't create the "circus". There's really no more low-key or straight forward way to conduct yourself as a free agent than what he did. Any "circus" that resulted was a result of the media trying to cater to interested fans.

I realize that the media made a circus out of it but even if it didn't..........any kid that's never played an NHL game in his life and is sitting in Toronto waiting for NHL brass to fly in an woo him is going to rub some people the wrong way. Media or not.

It was probably Edmonton all along. They're young and the talent is certainly there. I bet he's going to have a lot of fun. Imagine if that team started to click.

That doesn't really make a lot of sense. Why wouldn't you do it in a central location? Wouldn't Schultz flying out to meet the interested teams drag it out for weeks? Doesn't it speak better of him that he wanted to have face to face meeting?

If conducting his free agency in the most absolute boilerplate, non-descript way possible was going to rub people the wrong way than the reality is that nothing he could have done would have prevented that.
