As mentioned earlier, the play at full speed sees Kadri turn and move into him at virtually the same time with no elbow.
If this is the kind of thing the league is looking to crack down on and not the hit near the end of the game on Phaneuf where 2 players hit him from behind, then I'm not sure what the message is. I'm sick of inconsistent league discipline (Nash hit etc.).
Even better is that John Shannon reported on Twitter that the league looked at the play in which Kadri got a match penalty and said no further discipline was coming, that the hit was a body hit, and that the right call was made on the ice.
So...basically they are saying the right call was a match penalty for a body check.

Kadri should be mindful when he's around the goalie though. I think that's the only argument against it.

With all due respect you need to watch the replays. The fact that Kadri drove to the net and made contact was fine, with intereference the right call. But at the moment of impact his forearm drives right through Backstrom's head. Totally unnecessary.

I've watched it at least 20 times. After watching it, I formed my opinion.
I think quite the opposite of what you suggest happened. If you look at the moment of impact, around the 1:04 to 1:08 mark of the video, you'll see that Kadri actually pulls his forearm into his body. ya, he runs the goalie over, but it's not a deliberate elbow or forearm at all. I'd also argue it was impossible to avoid head contact there (I mean, aside from driving right through the crease), considering Backstrom's head was right near Kadri's hip height.

I'm with you and Potvin on the fact that he couldn't have avoided contact and that his arm was close to his body. But his right arm accelerates through the contact. Now, whether that had any actual effect I can't say. What I maintain is that driving through the contact with his arm, which there is no doubt he did, was unnecessary and, perhaps, makes the whole thing look worse than it is.

A Weekend at Bernier's said:Kadri deserves a minimum of two games. He absolutely drives his elbow through Backstrom's head. His elbow is close to his body, granted, but as contact is made is arm drives through and Backstrom's head clearly snaps back. Although I will acknowledge that Backstrom's after-the-hit state is a bit overboard.
