Kadri facing possible suspension (edit: 3 games)

The first hit should have got him a game for not knowing where he was on the ice. But the second hit reminds me of soccer, the players are waiting for hits, and dropping like they got shot  to get a penalty. Even some stupid ones are turning just before the hit.

Considering he was a repeat offender and Kadri is not, I have a problem with Naz getting more.

No idea how the second hit reminds you of that given that:
1. it was a solid, legit hit by Kadri, and
2. Granlund didn't drop or dive in any manner. In fact, he remained standing the whole time and was very calm after the hit.

3 games is not consistent with prior suspensions?

As long as this is the new standard, I'm ok with it. It's just unfortunate for the Leafs that the bar has been risen against Kadri.

The second hit had nothing to do with the decision, Shanny doesn't even mention it in the video.

I unsuccessfully debated that a hit from behind should of been punished, but there was no injury on the play.  So hopefully the Wild are down a goalie for the rest of the season, as this suspension would suggest.  Although I've seen people knocked out, their arms don't usually go flying upwards, they usually just drop.  I didn't know Kadri had a previous reputation.  And I really have to wonder where they think Kadri's motivation would come from.  The Wild have no impact on the Leafs.  They're not competing for a place in the standings.  I could see if this was an attack on Carey Price or something.  Shanahan probably doesn't understand how someone could accidentally hit a goalie because he couldn't skate.  The fact Kerry Fraser had anything to say... ... I hope I never meet him.

Really?  So when McSorley, who was playing for the Bruins, clubbed Brashear (Vancouver) across the head, he shouldn't have been suspended because the teams play in non-playoff competing divisions?

jonasTSN1050: Kadri said he expected Shanahan to mention the Granlund hit, but was solely Backstrom. "He agreed, he thought the second one was clean."

Jesse Winchester got 3 games. His hit was worse because of intent.

I hope the Leafs will appeal the suspension.  It may take a few days to go through that process and give the team less time without the 3 centres until Bozak returns.

I think you can only appeal a suspension of 6 games or more under the new CBA.

McSorley smacked someone over the head.  The intent is obvious.
All I'm saying is one might believe there would be more intent for a Lucic to injure Miller or a Gionta to injure Reimer.  Even if Kadri decide to go with the hit on Niklas Backstrom, it would be to get him off his game, not remove the Minnesota's chances of making the playoffs.  This suspension is more about Shanahan not doing what was right before and now coming down with the hammer for his own mistakes.  And I do believe Kadri deserved punishment.  But think 1-2 games would of sufficed.

I don't really care about the suspension but it just kinda irks me because of what gionta did to Reimer a couple of years ago and there was no suspension... How was this not intentional...

If that happened now it probably would be.  It happened before the Lucic-Miller incident where in the aftermath the GMs said they wanted greater enforcement of contact with the goalies.

I don't think that Gionta incident is intentional at all.  Reimer's just outside the blue paint and Gionta just goes across with his eyes to the play.  It probably should have been a penalty, but nothing more.
