I don't understand that.  The League sending a warning to Dallas for doing something that isn't against the rules?

Sure. The league obviously has limited power to change the rules in-season but if the Stars are doing something the league doesn't like I think it makes sense to say "hey, knock it off". Sort of like how what Avery did to Brodeur wasn't technically against the rules either.

OK, you Canadians have got an awesome country going there.  Gotta love PK, Justin, and Madame PM or whatever you call your First Lady.

I guess the thing I'm struggling with is more 'why is it something the league has a problem with'.  Why can a player not drop down to a knee.  I'm all for changing rules but there should be a semblance of reason behind it.  You can draw an easy conclusion as to why the league wouldn't want Avery waiving his stick in the air in front of the goalie.  Ignoring the fact that it's not a real hockey play, it's also falling under the context of reckless use of a stick having it in a permanently illegal position.  I'm just struggling with why dropping to a knee is a problem though.

Sort of similar to how they made it illegal to push the puck back with a hand in a face-off? Giving the player an unfair advantage by being in a position to shield the puck maybe

At a guess? I'd say probably because it gives the player on his knee a bit of an advantage in leverage which would make winning a defensive zone face-off easier and which the offensive center wouldn't match because it would make it harder to get back into the play. The league, which would ike to increase scoring, probably doesn't want defensive zone face-offs being easier to win.

It's like the trap. Wouldn't we have been better off if the league had said to teams "Yes, it's legal and yes it'll help undertalented teams win but it's bad for the game so cut it out before we have to come up with hard to enforce rules to get rid of it"?

That was an interesting defensive strategy by Marincin there.  Bernier has looked good.  Not tested a lot but he looks calm tonight.

Except for one bad giveaway near the end of the second, Hunwick has been dominant.

And Grabner!

Surely nothing could go wrong for Bernier here.....

No I think a shutout is in the bag. A shutout. A SHUTOUT.

You do know that typing that word into the Internet under these circumstances re-curves spacetime and makes causation run backwards, don't you?

IIRC, wasn't Bernier at his best when there was no real option to replace him - ie Reimer was hurt and we had zero depth in goal?

If I am remembering correctly, that same scenario is in play really tonight.

Pittsburgh loses 2-1 to Carolina.  That's 4 losses in a row after their coaching change.  Outscored 15-4.

And Grabner does it again!

That's what I'm banking on..... ;) :-X
