I know RW and ROW are tie breakers but the Leafs have a depleted defense but 2 points are two points.  6-1-1 in their last 8 games with Matthews doing nothing and Nylander cooling off.

I guess that?s the positive way to look at this, but no way this roster can compete in the playoffs. They?ll get destroyed.
Didn't know the playoffs started. There's still over 60 games to go.

Yes they are because they're still winning when not playing their best. Good teams do that. We're also missing 3 of our top 6 D men.

Blowing leads and winning in the NhL?s weirdo OT crap is not a really something that inspires confidence for the playoffs.

And yes, absolutely the defence is depleted, but let?s be honest, even with those 3 guys in the defence has not looked good.

Come on man, you know I?m saying as constructed, as they are playing now, they would look awful in the playoffs.

I?m not an idiot. I know there?s still a lot of season. And so far, they?ve shown little to inspire confidence.

Lets hope all the cylinders start firing at the same time.  We seem to have found a Goalie with a Beast waiting in the wings.

I would modify your claim to say that this team is a good team, but not as good as they were last year.  Barring injuries to the Core 4, I think they should make the playoffs.  But I don't see them doing much.

Sure. They?re an ok team. But they?ve taken a big step back from last season. Last season I really felt this team was solid at both end of the ice.

This really feels like the weakest team in the Matthews era.

Of course. That?s the hope, but I?ve never seen this core group find that next gear.

I?m just saying that as is, this team isn?t good enough. They need to make some big moves but lack the assets to make that happen.

The 2019-20 team was pretty bad - the Ceci/Barrie era, where they lost to a Zamboni driver.

...well, I just unlocked some PTSD.  But yeah, I think this team is at least better than that one.

I thought that was a pretty ugly effort. I'm not sure they deserved a point.
Half their top 6 D is out so I guess they have some excuse.
But the Kraken are not that great yet they carried the last two periods.

They're close to last year's team in points so they're not terrible.
But I think last year's team was a better team.
They're is something wrong with this group. It is not just the dmen. I do not think the forwards are as good defensively either.
EDIT: some of that might have something to do with the changes to the system Keefe implemented at the start of the season

That?s fair. I kind of write off that whole Covid era to be honest. Not just from a leafs perspective but all sports.

Matthews has 1 goal in his last 9 games and only 2 even strength points in 9 games (5 points overall).

I certainly hope this isn't the wrist thing again.

Could be a bloodbath tomorrow night against the bruins.

His faceoff win% has been down which was a tell for the wrist problem before ...
I haven't got time to look at it today ..

His percentage has gone up since early on. He's at 51% now.

This is my biggest fear with his new contract. Guy has almost never been 100% through his whole career.

And will still pot at least 40 per...

Matthews' down year is Nylander's (and like over 98%* of the league in history) career year...

* made up number, but you know what I mean
