Leafs 2015/2016 Schedule in 10 game chunks

Was Spaling hauled as the second coming of Sundin or something?  No.  He's just another centre.

Bernier, on the other hand, was pegged as being the go- to guy, whereas no one expected James Reimer to be this good.

Bernier was acquired for a second round pick and a non-prospect. The idea that he came in with a ton of hype or the reasonable expectations that he would radically transform the Leafs at the position simply has no basis in reality. It's fantasy. The Leafs hoped he would develop into a reliable #1, just like they hoped Tyler Bozak would develop into a first line center or Phaneuf into an elite defenseman.

Like Carlton said, the idea that Bernier's, or any of those other guy's, failure to achieve that stems from a lack of desire is just more meaningless babble.

In other words, they're all no good.

Furthermore, just as one is entitled to their own opinion, so I am entitled to mine.  I still stand by what I said before about the impression Bernier is giving some people, not in any way that you have to believe it.

Like I said, and will say it again, Reimer found his groove, Sparks shows promise, and #45 is downsliding to whatever problems that do not appear solved.

That last stretch kinda sums this team up and to Babcock's credit he's said as much most of the year. Lunch pail team that's going to be in a lot of one-goal/close games.

Only 3 wins from 10, but 9 of a possible 20 points, almost .500. About what you could expect from a team relying on systems and work ethic over talent most nights.

The Leafs have 7 OT losses this year, and that figure is only eclipsed by Vancouver who has 8.

Losing back to back games when scoring 4 goals is a tough pill to swallow for a good team, never mind a low scoring team like the Leafs.

With Babcock's system being front and centre of this teams limited success this year, I can't help but be excited to see what we will see next season and the season after that. Once the talent pool starts to trickle in, I think we're finally going to see a real competitive NHL team in Toronto. When's the last time we've had that? It's been too long. I want to start cheering on a winning Leaf team!!

December's the month of the surging basement dwellers! Edmonton and Calgary are both 7-3 in their last 10.

It's the giving season, and the better teams are feeling generous! January is typically when reality sets in, any way.

We've really been overachieving lately!

When your team out plays the other team it is not called overachieving. It called playing good team hockey. They are playing Babcock's system. I don't understand why anyone thought they were going to be awful. Just because a team does not have a superstar does not mean they are going to lose.

Outplaying opponents that also have good coaching but better players is pretty much the definition of overachieving.

I love how someone like you always pipes up when something appears to be true in a small sample size and in hindsight to prove your point. People have a very good reason to think that, despite coaching, the team's talent level will be a driving factor as to where the team finishes - based on that I, and many others here, are reasonable in thinking a bottom 5 finish is likely.

Only time will tell, whether they finish in the bottom five or not.

I for one am enjoying the competitive hockey, and I hope it continues.
