We don't look that bad, Freddie not having a great game but perhaps Sparks should have had this one with Fredo tomorrow. Don't know why Babs has trouble switching them up
I know there are guys that never want to blame the goalie but you expect more than a .765 save % even if you're giving up bad chances.
That's not true. If any goalie is crap, he'll get called out. Like I said, he may not be saving their asses like usual, but this isn't on Freddie. You can agree or not,  I don't care. The D has been absolutely horrible tonight on every goal.
Columbus has given up far more chances than the Leafs. They haven't been defensive stalwarts by any measure. The difference? Brobrosky > Andersen. Andersen made 0 tough saves.

Ok. Time for a crazy trade proposal....Who would trade Nylander and Matthews for McDavid straight up?  8)

Wouldn't even consider it.
Yah then we would be the Toronto Oil Burners or the Tartans or some other nonsense and Oilers would actually make the playoffs

Bobrovsky made quite a few good saves but I wouldn't say he stole the game or anything.  Just one of those nights where the chances didn't go in.

We have been sailing along pretty well without Matthews & Nylander but games like this you really miss them as potential difference-makers in the 3rd.

Agreed as the only other person to actually be on St.Croix at some point in their lives would know.

Exactly. They capitalized on their chances, while the leafs carried the play for a good chunk of the game. Bobrovski looked pretty bad on a bunch of sequences, including the kapanen goal.

I think the real difference in the game was the defence. Reilly had a very bad night, while Jones was a stalwart, and the rest of the CBJ defence is better than the leafs group.

Hainsey is so brutal, we need him to go to Robidas Island........NOW

See, I don't think that's fair. Last year it was all about Polak, and now it's just about finding another whipping boy.

Hainsey is a 3rd pairing guy thrust into way too many minutes on a  first pairing situation, and he isn't paid to be one either. That's more a reflection of the lack of depth than it is on Hainsey.

I'm not getting the STX reference ....

Leafs still out chanced and outshot Columbus by a fair bit. Every half chance Columbus had went in, not one great save you could point to from Freddie. When your goalie gives up 4 on 24 it's not up to NHL standards. Sorry.

See, I think you're wrong there on a couple counts. I can point to a bunch of great saves Freddie made on the night (ie- the slapper that Foligno walked into, for one, in the third), but I take more exception to the idea that you can judge the quality of a goalie's outing by his save percentage.

Take the Carolina game, for example. They credited Freddie with 25 saves in the first period. A lot of those were outside shots, and more than a few were dump ins that shouldn't have even been credited. He's already banked enough shots for a great save percentage, and my grandmother could have stopped the majority of them. No bearing on the game, just on the stats sheet.

Tonight, the leafs carried a great deal of the play, so there wasn't a lot of outside shots. Freddie made the saves he was supposed to make, but when you defence lets players get second chances off the rebounds, that's not on the goalie, that's on the defence. The save percentage doesn't tell the story at all.

I missed this game but it sounds like that Dallas game where we got some puck luck going in the wrong direction.

Something like that. Seemed every mistake they made ended up in the net.

From the Game in 6, that?s what looks like. Some bad turnovers that the Blue Jackets capitalized on, while the Leafs had a bunch of bad bounces on the offensive side of things.

Babcock's post-game remarks, fresh off the result, is usually in agreement with how I've seen the games play out. I think a lot of fans not online might disagree for the most part. I like how he provides coach-effect moderation to the emotions of the result; this season his wording and emphasis has been very much in line with what Dubas has preached in his remarks (process), and it's echoed in the players' responses as well.
