Twitter says Mitch Marner another hat trick tonight. 54 pts in 24 games.

Meh.

Does the league have a mercy rule suspension available?

He's good defensively but does still have little things to work on...but offensively he is done with the OHL.  Next year is going to be interesting.  The Leafs aren't doing him any favours by sending him to the OHL again.

I get that the CHL wants to keep its star players as long as possible, but if they have an "exceptional player" option to get in, they ought to have one to get out.

Yeah, basically if he goes back to the OHL again it's being used as another 12-month conditioning stint because he's not physically ready. You then run the risk of him stagnating.

He's now on an 18 game point streak with 47 points (2.61 PPG pace).  If Marner plays the whole year he would end up with 57GP after the World Juniors.  If he maintains his current scoring pace Marner would wind up with something around 130-140 points which is insane.  The last guy to put up numbers like that while being away at the World Juniors...Patrick Kane.

While I think that's a good idea in theory, the subjectivity of it all would mean that most 1st round picks would eventually wind up starting in the AHL as teams would claim to have more and more exceptional status players.

You could set some kind of statistical threshold that, if exceeded after a certain number of games, the parent club could opt to send him to the AHL.

EDIT: Patrick, just saw your post. ^

I've seen cats toying with their prey show more mercy than this guy.

Okay, everyone who thought we'd go on to whup the stuffing out of the Blues after Tarasenko scored, raise your hand.

I really thought we were in for a whupping!  Surprised, but pleased!

I don't see how the solution isn't just to abandon any pretense where the NHL lets the CHL decide how they develop prospects.

I'm ready to throw my hat onto the ice. I don't care that I cannot throw that far. Even if it's an EN-goal.

Kinda fun for a change, isn't it?

Is Tikhonov worth a waiver claim?

Looks like a lot of talent there, he's just taking a bit longer to figure out the NHL game and NA ice size.

EDIT: Should add that I thought he looked like a larger Komarov when I'd seen clips of him in the past.

He strikes me as another one of those guys who does really well in the KHL, but is only a 3rd/4th liner in the NHL. So, at this point, probably not, no.
