If Matthews has a few more games like that maybe we can trade him to Washington for Tom Wilson.

If he played a few more like that he might not be the subject of so many complaints.

Yeah, 2 goals a game does seem like about the minimum it would take for those hysterical ninnies.

Probably more the effort and engagement.

Right up there with fans who think the most skilled guy is automatically great.

Not automatically. Just if he does that thing where he hits the round disk with his hockey twig and it goes into the net a lot.

And in games where he fails to do that he has not shown well with some regularity this season, hopefully that is behind him. So he is now somewhere between trade bait for Tom Wilson and Connor McDavid.

Yup, like I said, goal a game or nothing for the chowderheads.

Yes, exactly what I  wrote.  How about on the nights he doesn't score a good all round effort rather than mailing it in and watching guys go by you and score?  He does not need to score every night to be good,  he does have to be consistant in effort and execution.

I think there are a number of people on this forum who don't even watch the games, they just look at the stats. That's the only way to explain some of the comments I see.

Engvall's playing centre now and getting PK time. I don't think Keefe is gonna want to let him go whenever/if we get healthy.
Problem is he makes too much. Someone making close to 900K will have to go.

Ah, true. It looks like he makes just a touch too much. It's kinda crazy to think because he makes too much at the NHL level he has to go back to making peanuts at the AHL level.
I'm starting to think that we could afford to trade Johnsson..maybe for a back-up goalie and a bit of cap space to let Engvall stay up

I agree. Johnsson has some real value and we need to address some other areas here without giving up pieces of the core group.

They outplayed them and the score reflected it.  It's also nice to see them getting some bounces, some luck.

I still find myself cheering for Spezza, for whatever reason.  At 12 points in 20 games, that's a 49 point pace production.  3 of those points are on the PP.  He's averaging 11:11 minutes a game on the 4th line.

I don't think Dermott's intent was to fight Brouwer.  I think he wanted to protest the slash...which totally should have been called, but anyways...he was confronting Brouwer and all of a sudden he's in a fight, and clings onto Brouwer's chest for his life!

I don't get how Brouwer doesn't get an extra two there. He cross checked Dermott in the chin, then when Dermott was reeling, he dropped his gloves and started punching him.

I was looking for the slash on video this morning, but I can't get a good look at it.  It looked bad enough last night that I thought it should have been a penalty.

Brouwer slashes Dermott, Dermott turns into Brouwer in protest of the slash, Brouwer cross checks Dermott around the base of his neck then throws his gloves off and starts punching Dermott.

Deebo mentioned it last night here, but I have no idea how Brouwer doesn't get at least an extra 2 minutes there.  It's unreal.

If Dermott drops, I think the extra two happens. If Dermott keeps his gloves on I think it does as well.

Slashes and cross checks aren?t penalties unless they are up near the hands anymore.  It?s funny how the Leafs have switched up to a heavy puck possession style and really outside of the Colorado game have controlled the play but still end up with 8 more penalties against and only 12 drawn in 8 games in the Keefe era.

In the first period alone there were two or three blatant trips that weren?t called.

I really like Andreas Johnsson but if the Leafs can move him and he?ll maybe Ceci in a 2 for 2 trade for a goalie and another defense man I?m all for it.

Ok Leafs in big trouble with CC/Dermott pairing.

Anyone paired with Ceci Rider is going into the swamp.  Love Engvall, notice he didn't make a head fake seemed to be looking straight ahead and then the short pass to Hyman for the finish.
What is up with Nick Pecan (a tough nut to read), lots of effort zero results?
Overall best Leaf game of the year. Finally figuring out the Keefe system and the great thing is you can still seem a ton of room for all of them to improve individually and as a team.

It's quite funny really.

Leafs Win: "Man they're really buying into Keefe's system"

Leafs Lose: "It's way too early to expect them to play Keefe's system"
