The fact that the OFFSIDE call would have resulted in a whistle means that it ended up being a dead clock IMHO.  Why did they turn back the clock then???

You're confusing two different things. The clock was running when the penalty was called. Negating the goal doesn't mean that didn't happen.

Penalties are still called on offences that happen after whistles, though. What the call was is pretty immaterial. You can't let guys go unpunished for things just because the whistle has/should have blown. That opens up a can of worms the league is better off leaving closed.

If the goal doesn't count, how does the hooking call count.  Come on!

Because a no-goal call isn't the same thing as those memory erasing flashlights from Men in Black.

The Leafs are now 29th in the league and 1 point up on Columbus.

They're technically still ahead of Edmonton, but that could change by the end of the night.

I know technically that PT% is the first tie-breaker but that is going to be moot by seasons end.  I'm intentionally ignoring it.

Oh, I know. I also think there's a very good chance that Edmonton legitimately pulls ahead in points tonight.

As long as Edmonton doesn't make the playoffs, they'll get the first overall pick. So really it doesn't matter where we finish in relation to them.
