Game Notes

TOR
?Andersen (32-13-3, 2.56 GAA, .924 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
?Petan practiced as the 4C between his fellow munchkins. Babcock was non-committal about that line actually playing but it better otherwise herman will burn this place to the ground
?The defence pairings at practice weren't reported. Since that was the case I'd assume there won't be any changes (poor Holl), but we'll have to wait for the morning skate to be sure
?Toronto's 4th line has a combined cap hit of less than $2.5mil

VAN
?Markstrom (23-19-8, 2.71 GAA, .914 Sv%) will likely start for the Canucks
?Vancouver sits 26th in the league and is now just waiting for the season to be finished
?Pettersson's career got off to a terrific start with 22 goals and 42 points in his first 37 games. Since then though he has just 4 goals in his last 18 games, along with 10 assists. Also 0 goals in his last 7 games. Apparently a 27.8% shooting percentage is NOT sustainable
?Josh "I can't believe we lost him" Leivo has 2 points in his last 10 games. He'll probably score 2 goals against the Leafs and then do nothing again for 3 weeks
?Vancouver's 4th line has a combined cap hit of $9.925mil

Injuries

?Nazem Kadri - Concussion - Day to day
?Jake Gardiner - Back - Injured Reserve
?Travis Dermott - Shoulder - Injured Reserve
Code:

?Ben Hutton - Foot - Questionable Wednesday
?Ryan Spooner - Undisclosed - Questionable Wednesday
?Chris Tanev - Ankle - Injured Reserve
?Jake Virtanen - Ribs - Injured Reserve
?Brandon Sutter - Groin - Injured Reserve
?Sven Baertschi - Concussion - Injured Reserve

How fun will it be when John Tavares is inducted into the Hall of Fame wearing his hometown Maple Leaf posed like Gretzky on a Casper bed lined with a TML bed set?

More: Haha yikes

I heard this morning that Kadri is considered a game time decision for tonight.

I don't know how they can take either Ennis or Moore out of the line-up when Kadri is back.

The odd man out would seem to be Brown, who isn't terrible but isn't as good as the other options. I can't see Babcock sitting Brown though.

Nice problem to have, really.

The odd man out should be Marleau, but they won't do that.

Don't agree. As much as he's slowed down at times this year, he's been looking good lately and has a lot more offence then Brown.

A few weeks ago against Montreal, Zaitsev took a penalty with about half a minute left in regulation in a tie game. The Leafs went on to win that game in overtime, but not before the entire penalty was killed using just two forwards - either Hyman or Brown. And Brown was on the ice for the majority of that (4 on 3) kill. He did not factor into scoring the overtime winner, but it would not have happened without him. Some guys play roles that do not include the score sheet. Brown does a good job at his role.

Holl in for Oz on top of the 5'9Line???  What alternative universe are we living in?

You don't know that the outcome would have been the same or different. Anyway, not denying his penalty killing abilities. Issue is he can't be a 1 dimensional player and play on the 3rd line. Hyman is virtually the same type of player that Brown is. Difference, Hyman is putting up some points and contributing offensively. Brown isn't and that becomes a liability especially in the playoffs when you need your bottom 6 to produce once in a while. I don't hate Brown at all but I think the Leafs have better options at the moment and will need them next year when he's gone.

I think Babs has been reading this forum lol. Maybe he realized his mistake by not playing Holl and is making sure all the extra guys don't get stale sitting around in the pressbox. I doubt it tho. He's probably putting them in so if they fail he can go, see we need to do it my way, blah blah.

Back from Calgary after watching the Iginla retired jersey game vs Minny and then the Leaf game on Monday. Quite the scene there as it always is with huge support for the Leafs. Was a great weekend but highlight as an extra bonus was running into Matthews and 2 Flames out for dinner at the same restaurant we were at. Nice of them to let us get a pic. Also the Ennis hat trick and amount of hats thrown. Well back to the grind today for me but looking for another 2 points tonight from the Leafs. GLG.

This. Brown is a fine PKer and all, but, he's not so good that he's irreplaceable. It's quite possible that Moore or Petan could kill penalties just as well, while providing more at 5-on-5.
