Leafs @ Capitals - Apr. 15th, 7:00pm - CBC, Fan 590

They should probably go the other way.  Allow challenges on offsides that are called, that weren't really offsides, and then award a goal to the team that was incorrectly stopped.

Also, Kapenen looks like he may end up developing in to a Justin Williams type of player in that he has a knack for scoring big goals.

Did you ever hit that one in the head, and way before the OT winner as well!

I know Matthews has something like 10 shots and won 11 face-offs but he has misfired on all his great chances in both games. I am sure he will settle down and when he does, its going to be more than interesting.
Kudo's to the entire team but Fred Anderson is perhaps are best goaltender to come through our doors in a long long while. Absolutely amazing perfomance, he "seized the day".

He scored that world junior gold medal winning goal in OT.  The announcers said that this was probably the biggest goal in his career.  I think the gold medal goal has to be up there.

Given the context of that goal(in Finland, vs. Russia) sure but there's no actual competition.

Oh there's a competition, and that World Junior goal is winning the swim suit portion.

"No Al Michaels, while I appreciate the United States were heavy underdogs I'm not convinced that this was actually the result of some sort of 'miracle' as I've yet to see evidence of some sort of supernatural influence. Reel it in."

I'm at a 10 and you need me more at a 7?

Could we get Bob Cole back please?

Seriously. Hughson is completely atonal. His call on that OT goal sounded like he was reporting an icing or plugging a CBC sitcom. Get him away from the Leafs.

That had some passion to it😂😂😂

Sorry, but I'm going to swim upstream here.  Spluttering at top volume doesn't constitute a great audio call.

As for Hughson's call, all I can say is, those sticks are worth 300 bucks and I give Jim credit for channeling the Carlson's frantic state of mind.

You know, the second I saw the stick get dropped in the corner is the second I knew we had a chance right there and then, when Boyle held the puck for what seemed like forever and passed it for Kapi to bury was just fantastic, best Leaf moment in ages. Cathartic for lack of better words.

Everybody is more than welcome to jump aboard the "Jake Gardiner is our best defenceman" train. There's still plenty of room but you better act fast.

I gave him my MotM nod but Rielly was as good if not better last night.

I think that Rielly looked great on the PP, which isn't all that surprising since I think he should have been there all season long. But on even-strength Gardiner was quite easily the better player in my eyes. Possession stats support that too (53% vs. 43%). All while playing against Washington's big gun's slightly more.

edit: That's not to say that I didn't think Rielly also looked very good last night. The two carried our defence on their shoulders last night, especially after Polak's injury.

A good long read:

'YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT HE'S GOING TO DO'

Yup. I've always loved this quote:

In Game 1 of Toronto?s first-round series against Boston, Carlyle opted to sit Gardiner, and the Leafs lost 4-1. Three nights later, in Game 2, Gardiner made his NHL playoffs debut. ?Once I got in, I said, ?Screw it. I?m just gonna play my game and go for it,?? Gardiner says. He had an assist, and logged 17:45 of ice time in a 4-2 Leafs win. Two nights later, he scored in a 5-2 victory. By the end of the series ? which Leafs fans needn?t be reminded of, because it finished with an epic collapse ? Gardiner had five points in six games, good for fourth on the team, and he was fourth in ice time, despite the fact he played just six of seven games. ?When you get the opportunity, you gotta take it and run,? Gardiner says. ?That?s what I did.?

Quite easily one of the best Leafs in that series, if not the best one period.

i have watched the highlights a few more times today just to see Marner absolutely fly down the ice to catch Ovechkin on the breakaway...

Gardiner and Reilly will drive from the point, a great asset to have and a dangerous combination with these forwards. Babs makes sure their spot is temporarily filled by a forward circling back, limiting our two-on-ones and three-on-twos going the other way. I believe this is one of their greatest strengths.

Capitals hand out 19,000 cowbells in worst giveaway ever

The cowbells were irritating enough by themselves, but even as a Leaf fan, it was even more irritating that it was just white noise that barely varied with anything happening on the ice.  They'd ring 'em for Capitals goals, Leaf goals, anything.  Leafs score in overtime and they're still ringing the cowbells.  They're probably still ringing them at home right now.

Well, you gotta have more cowbell.
