Leafs claim McElhinney on waivers / Enroth traded to ANA

Up Dec 16-20th, Dec 24-28, Jan 8-10.

It's 10, if you go by 24 hour periods (all transactions seem to happen at noon).
It's 13 if you consider up Monday at noon, down Tuesday at noon as two days, but I doubt it.

Thanks, Coco-puffs. I hate counting days.

Then why didn't he require waivers to be sent down today?  He was originally waived Dec. 5th and its now Jan. 10th.

"A player does not need to pass through waivers if the player has not been on the NHL active roster for a cumulative 30 days since last clearing waivers, and has not played in 10 or more NHL games. CBA Reference 13.2(b)"

EDIT:  Btw, I was under the same impression as you.  I thought the 30-day thing was "since originally put on waivers", but its not, its "30 days on the NHL roster" that makes you eligible for waivers again.

Weird. Maybe that was a change in the new CBA that flew under the radar? Either way, not likely an issue. Enroth isn't coming back up to the Leafs unless there's an injury - and, even then, he's only a maybe.

NHL days are noon to noon, so, it's 10.

NHL days on Mars, however, are 364 earthyears long.

:o

I think my eyes are goggling trying to follow this.

I still don't think they gave Enroth much of a chance. A few more games, and some elevator shoes, and he could have found favour.

Backup's gonna play. A goalie can play 70 if his defence is stingy. Not this current Leafs group. 35+ shots per game, multiple quality chances.

From PPP (from an excerpt)):

There are obviously two sides on McElhinney. On one hand, he's a consummate pro and a good teammate. On this team, he knows his role will be to play once every six or seven games...In addition, we've seen that, in small stretches, CMac is a solid backup.

The other side of that coin is that he's been asked to play far more in each of his two seasons in Columbus than was anticpitated...averaged 30 games played in each of those seasons...That's too much to expect him to play and to be consistent

Yeah, I know the Enroth trade has nothing to do with the Andersen + Bernier deals. Net (ha) value is evening out slightly on paper, but I can't say I'd rather have what we spent.

Someday our grandchildren will ask about the Leafs' Enroth era...

Heck, throw in the Beauchemin for Lupul/Gardiner deal and things are downright solid.

Second only to former Leaf great Olaf Kolzig.
