Toronto claims 23 year old centerman Seth Griffith off waivers

He had 24 goals, 53 assists, 77 points in 57 AHL games last season. 2nd overall in AHL scoring. Certainly nothing left to prove there.

Former London Knight too.

Bye Laich ?

Leivo is not at practice... however, also not on waivers. He looks like the one that is injuried after all...

So if they sideline Leivo to the ER
Assign Laich to the Marlies

they can add Seth Griffith to their roster.

Other moves would have to assign players that don't need waivers (Marner, Matthews, Brown, Nylander to the Marlies and keep Laich for some unknow reason).

5pm deadline...

I get passing on Pulkkinen but this confuses me a little bit. Is he a press box guy? A smallish AHL scorer?

So the Stanley cup champs took a flyer on Condon, eh?  ::)  :-X

Says Griffith he can line up at center.  Holland on your guard.

77 points last season in 57 AHL games for the Bruins farm team and is Ontario born.

If ya don't draft 'em... CLAIM 'EM!

Yeah, because Murray is hurt and they want to leave Jarry in the AHL, since last year was his 1st professional season. They took him as a stop-gap option. Unless Fleury is traded or injured, he'll be back on waivers when Murray is healthy.

There is a London Knights connection, for what it's worth.

I'm at a loss as to what that means.

Looks like a safer, bottom 6 pick than Pulkkinen, as well as centre depth in a pinch (he plays RW usually).

Hunter knows this guy of course so there is the connection. I have to trust the powers that be on this one

"Hunter knows this guy" or "He was a London Knight" is not an answer to "What role is he likely to play?".

What does that mean, exactly? Don't we have plenty of safe bottom 6 options?

As a direct comparison to the other AHL dominant waiver option of interest: Griffith doesn't need a top 6 role the way Pulkkinen would've.

Defensively, he looks like a better option than Leivo. Better hockey sense than Hyman. If they miraculously waive someone else (Polak/Hunwick pls) and keep Brown, the two of them could split a season without overwhelming either of them.

Griffith's  numbers at AHL (age of 22) looks good.

Matt Martin better sandpaper the hell out of people, because you could make a pretty good case he's not one of the best 13 or even 14 forwards in the organization now.

Don't remind me. No one on waivers from the Leafs means Brown goes down for this (which is maybe better as he'll get top line minutes and be the first call up). Or Hunwick and Polak get traded in my dream scenario.

Oh, right, Polak. What a colossal waste of a roster spot that is. I don't buy the theory that the Leafs overpaid Polak specifically to get him through waivers, but now that they have a better idea of what they have in Zaitsev it wouldn't be entirely surprising to see that attempted.
