Leafs @ Flyers - Nov. 2nd, 7:00pm - CBC, Fan 590

Can never win initial draw on the PP.  of the reasons for the 2-23 stretch.  Always fighting to set up.

A PP.  Now drill 'em.

The PP will never do anything unless and until they can vary the zone entry with an option to shoot it in and retrieve.  There is no threat of a chaos goal so you get what you just saw there: hopeless cross-seam passes, way too slow puck movement, and pretty much not a chance.

McFarland was supposed to fix this.  He hasn't.

There definitely seems to be something not quite right with the Leafs. It looks like a lack of confidence but I think it?s something more than that. It?s like they?re unfamiliar with one another or not quite sure what it is they?re meant to be doing.

You know, they look like they've always looked: way less dangerous, way less dominant than you think they should be.  When you've tried a bunch of other things, what's left?  A couple more weeks drifting like this and I'm not sure Dubas will be able to withstand the pressure.
They look great when the puck luck is going their way, or when all the little cutesy plays are working - then the lack of sustained pressure doesn't matter so much. But for large stretches of the past year, they've really looked quite mediocre overall and have relied way too much on Andersen.

Once Tavares, Hyman and Muzzin are back (assuming no other major injuries), the clock will start ticking.

They should be running the Flyers out of the building.

Matthews, Nylander, Marner ... none of them has any killer instinct.

I don't have the numbers but I'm guessing their W-L for this calendar year doesn't just look mediocre, it is mediocre.

I don?t get to watch as much as I used to but yeah it seems to me that they?re still playing the rush game they were playing maybe 2 seasons ago. It was working then cos they were kind of underrated or under the radar. Now that that style has been worked out and countered if it doesn?t work they don?t have a plan b or plan c or any way to shake things up.

Edit to add also: back then they were pretty exciting to watch. Right now... they?re kind of a bit boring

They've gotten totally away from the stretch passes, which overall is the right thing to do.  But it's totally gone from their game.  If they could put it strategically back in a few times a game, I think it would force the other D to increase the gap and thus open up more ice for their possession-game speed.

Andersen has sucked .  I'm going to enjoy Nylander getting benched seeing as that seems to be Babcock's only move when disciplining players for bad efforts.

Not a great way to start the 3rd.  So bad.  Not sure what good it?s doing keeping Babcock employed.  It?s clear he can?t make them better.

Then again, maybe the clock is already ticking. Maybe it should be.
