Leafs @ Hurricanes - Feb. 20th, 7:00pm - SNO, TSN 1050

Devils scored for 4-2 at the same moment as Reimer was pulled. Carolina need to hit that empty net now...

mirtle: Leafs fall to 4-22-2 in their last 28 games. Unbelievable.

I was going to post that Connor McDavid is smiling just a little bit bigger, but then I read even he thinks it's hard to be a Leaf fan right now.

?With the Leafs and how they?ve been playing of late, it?s hard to be a Leafs fan right now,? McDavid said. ?Your loyalty goes to the team you?re playing for.?

With our luck, we'll win the lottery and he'll pull a Lindros on the Leafs.  :P

I haven't been watching all the games, but man, Kessel and JVR really don't look like themselves.
Kessel at least looks like he's trying some of the time. JVR has been completely invisible (which I guess is a good thing).

the leafs almost finished last the year lindros came up didn't they?  though i think they'd already traded their first round pick....i wonder how things would have played out though if they had of had their first and got lindros

I think that was the Scott Niedermayer year, wasn't it? Leafs traded their first round pick which turned out to be #3 (Niedermayer) for Tom Kurvers.

That would have been a level of ugly unseen around these parts. I mean, this team has done some stupid things, but, that would have been a whole new level. Losing out on Niedermayer because of that pick was bad enough, but Lindros legitimately could have turned the franchise around (and, who knows the whole concussion thing would have played out with him here instead of Philly).

Amazingly, a few seasons later, after the lottery was introduced, they traded what would ultimately become the 4th overall pick to the Islanders, who used it to draft Roberto Luongo. Had the lottery turned out differently, that pick could have been Joe Thornton.

The Leafs have made some really bad decisions in terms of trading 1st round picks.

What's crazy about that trade is that it wasn't just the pick, it was Kenny Jonsson too, just to get Wendel Clark back.

Another in the top 5 worst trades of all time... It's a long list...

Just went back and looked at that draft (referring to the Lindros year). Leafs had also traded their second round pick (of course). There were a lot of impact players in those two rounds...Forsberg, Rolston, Kovalev, Naslund, Whitney. Ozolinsh, Palffy, Zhitnik, and William Nylanders father would all have been available at the Leafs second round spot.

Yeah. That was right near the end of the Fletcher era, and he was pretty desperate to recapture the success he had early on. Might be the Leafs worst trade of that era.

I hope this retrospective look at horrible moves puts the Quinn era in a better perspective - say what you will about what they did during that time, but, in my opinion, no moves they did set the franchise back (I'm talking pre-JFJ obviously). But every management before and after has dealt critical blows to this this franchise.

I've always felt that they had a very smart man in Quinn that they just tossed to the curb for some unknown reason.
