Leafs @ Hurricanes - Nov. 21st, 7:00pm - SN, Fan 590

I don't care if "the guys in the truck" checked and said it was so.  I don't think CAR had 29 shots in the first period.  North of 20, yes.

Nice shitty stick checks for the 1st empty netter and way to give up on the 2nd one Gardiner. Oh an Hainsey needs to clear the fn puck on the 3rd goal.

As good as the Leafs' start has been, tonight is one of those nights where you really question the front office and their decision to play a quarter of the season shorthanded.

It does seem like a Matthews or a Nylander could have made a difference in this game. They make for good third line players.

I would like to extend an invite to Zaitsev to my 5-year-old son's hockey practice. They both need to work on their passing and puck handling skills. I would line them directly across from each other and practice passing the puck back and forth. Praising them each time a successful pass is made.

Seriously though he is allergic to the puck and just blindly gets rid of it every time it's near him. It's scary that he's losing his ability to even rifle it off the boards and out, let alone make a pass.

I'd much rather play a quarter of a season shorthanded than be strong armed into a top of the market contract that impacts us for 6+ years.

I wouldn't. Especially if, as seems to be the case, playing shorthanded for a quarter of the season hasn't actually resolved anything.

Yes, you've been quite clear about where you stand in terms of this negotiation.  At the end of the day, the Leafs aren't in jeopardy of missing the playoffs without him for the first quarter of the season, so if this gets resolved in the Leafs favour over the next few days it will have been worth it.

If it isn't resolved, or it ends up not changing anything- which I highly doubt- then yes you would be correct.  But at worst, I'd expect this to end up being a compromise from both sides... and if Willy's camp wasn't willing to compromise until the last minute, then the Leafs handled it well by not compromising until that point too.

Good to see standards remain high.

I still think you're jeopardizing not only this season but also Nylander's development and potentially his relationship with the team for the sake of a fairly meaningless cap savings but this is well-worn territory.

Yeah, I still think that this Nylander negotiation has more to do with the deals for Marner and Matthews, and Gardiner, and probably Kapanen.
