Thornton is kind of showing his age a little bit when he's not benefitting from playing with Matthews/Marner.  0G 1A -2 in last 11 GP

Just seeing him out there he seems fairly stationary most of the time.

Kind of following the same fading trajectory as Patty.  Looked pretty good at first but then the air starts leaking through the sidewalls.

Not sure what everyone expected. Looked good as he was playing with 2 of the best forwards in the league. Not hard to sneak a point in here or there. Respect the guy great to have in the dressing room but his career is done. We would be better off bringing Robertson into the lineup.

Heard he wouldn't mind going to a playoff team. Hopefully Dubas doesn't hear about it.

Still has a 59% CF and 60% xGF during those 11 games. So scoring has dried up (which was bound to happen eventually, but obviously would have been nice to not be this severe) but I don't think his performance has necessarily hit a wall.

I've been watching him specifically lately, he's making plays, but obviously not scoring as much.

Just like most of the team through this stretch.

He just can't keep up any more, not that speed was ever his calling card.

I think he needs to rest every 3 or 4 games, but probably resists as he sees this as his last Hurrah.

I don't want them to play Campbell unless they are relatively sure he won't aggravate whatever his problem is. Even if we have to run with Hutch for another week.

I don't think we have to worry about that, Lou is gone.

Hey look at that. The top unit would then be: Rielly/Matthews-Nylander-Marner/Simmonds. They also practiced with a loaded up top unit, so all options are open right now.

I like Nylander on the top unit as more of a shooting option over Tavares.  Tavares + Simmonds seems redundant as their best attribute is getting in front of the net and tipping/firing home rebounds.

I do like they are giving Galch a chance on the 2nd PP unit.  He's been good and deserves it.

Those are games where he's mostly played with Matthews and Marner, right?

He looks pretty ineffective for the most part over the past couple of weeks. Sure, every so often he'll stick out his large caboose below the goal line and hold off the defenders, sometimes making a good pass. But I'm seeing fewer and fewer plays like that. More often he bobbles or loses the puck or simply never catches up to the play. Same on the PP though the problems there are bigger than just him.

I think he's OK playing spot duty on the first line but he really belongs no higher than 3rd line (for the most part) at this point. Even that may be pushing it. He's far behind Spezza in terms of what the old timers are providing.
