Leafs looking at Josh Gorges

CarltonTheBear said:
Lupul makes sense if they're looking for an impact forward. But I also wouldn't be completely surprised if it was somebody like Holland or Ashton if they want a young player and more importantly cap space to take a run at somebody tomorrow.

Really hope it's not Holland - he fills more of a need than Gorges - but, someone like Ashton wouldn't be too bad.

It's rumored to be an aggressive offer.  I doubt that an offer of an AHL player would be deemed aggressive.

If Gorges is blocking a trade that would send Kadri back to Montreal Marc Bergevin would be holding Josh's family hostage until he waived his NTC.

Yeah. If that was the deal on the table, we'd probably hearing about more pressure from the Habs side to waive his NTC instead of them looking for him to provide more options.

The aggressive part could be about the Leafs attempts to presuade Gorges to agree to join the the club.

Louis Jean @LouisJean_TVA

Told @CanadiensMTL desire to trade Josh Gorges is purely a business move. Want to clear room under the salary cap. Don't see him as top 4 D.

And we do view him as that, apparently.

To be fair, teams can be wrong about players all the time...

Anton Stralman bounced around with 3 different teams (Tor, Cgy, Clb) before finding his game with NYR.

@LouisJean_TVA: Source says @MapleLeafs have offered a forward for @CanadiensMTL D Josh Gorges. They are "very agressive" I'm told.

Lupul?

Clarkson?

No seriously though, if it's Kadri.......

You could be right.  Below is the quote that I took it from, I assume it to be the offer that is aggressive???

My worry is that if it's aggressive, and a forward, that has a decent contract, well that only leaves someone like Kadri or Holland.  Kadri seems to be too much to offer for Gorges, and Holland not enough, and given the Leafs track record of trading players....well Kadri is probably the guy.

The prevailing speculation has the Leafs offering up Lupul here, which doesn't fit with they sea that Montreal is looking to clear cap space, but, it would if that's a misinterpretation of what they're looking for. Gorges for Lupul works if the Habs aren't looking to clear cap space, but shift cap commitments from the blue line to their forwards. If that's the deal, unless there's another piece coming from Montreal, I'm not sure I do it. If the Habs want the Leafs to retain salary, I almost certainly don't do it.

I'm getting the feeling this deal doesn't go down.  I'm not sure how I feel about it, not knowing what was going back the other way.  On the one hand, part of me wants the deal to go down just so we know.

or Nonis putting Bergevin in a headlock

I just can't see how it could be lupul. He's often injured, a $5M? cap hit, and hasn't been all that effective for some time.

I'd be surprised if they could get a 2nd rounder for him, let alone a top 3 D.

Well, since, really, Gorges is neither of those . . .

You don't think he would slot in to the Toronto top 3 as it currently sits? I'd have put him ahead of everyone but Phaneuf.
