Leafs not skating this morning, but ... Petter Granberg's equipment, sticks have arrived at BB&T Center; appears he's been called up

Makes sense with Ranger possibly out with the flu. Would give them 11 F and 7 D.

I know it wouldn't have really fit with what the team needs right now, but it would have been nice to give Brennan a game or two considering the MVP-like season he's had with the Marlies.

It's probably pretty telling for how the organization views him.  He's AHL fodder to them.  Too bad.  I think he deserves to get into one of the next two games.  No reason to be playing guys like Gleason at this point.

Nice. Time to make unwavering judgements about his NHL future based solely on this game.

I think they should have just stuck with Reimer for these last two games. Why go with a tender who's trying to make a name for himself now? He'll probably stand on his head for the victory tonight....

Edit: You know what? Screw it. Let's put the entire Marlies roster in for the final two. Top 4 players in these two games makes the Leafs next year.

Lottery Race:

6. Carolina 79
7. Winnipeg 80
8. Vancouver 81
9. Nashville 82
10. Ottawa 82
11. Toronto 84
12. Washington 85

That is what's basically up for grabs now. Catching Carolina or Winnipeg is probably unrealistic, but they still have a shot at finishing 8th or 9th.

Speve Stott et al on Granberg:

@markhmasters

Marlies coach Steve Spott on Granberg: "He?s just a physical specimen ? one of those guys that makes you earn every inch of ice out there"

@markhmasters

TJ Brennan on Granberg: "He's helped me. I don?t think I?ve helped him. We call him RoboCop sometimes bc he?s just a machine."

@markhmasters

Brennan on Granberg: "I try to learn from him defensively, bc he?s a machine back there ? He is, in some ways, an inspiration for me"

Was at a Marlies practice last month & guys were raving about Petter Granberg

The next Next Lidstrom?  The next Next Stralman?

I hear ya. It's just that anytime someone brings this kind of thing to the forefront and gets fans even a little excited about something, it turns out disastrous. The Leafs will wind up with like the 15th pick now..... ???

Considering none of those qualities would have been used to describe either of those players, yes.

Team best +18 on the Marlies. I remember thinking he might make the Leafs this year. I really believe they had him penciled in to begin the season with them. He just couldn't get used to the bigger rinks in time. He looked brutal in the preseason. It looks like he's gotten used to it now.

That would have required making the playoffs. :P

If there is a will, there is a way.  I can see the league revising its decisions about Kovalchuk and Frogren and deciding that NJ should get the 14th pick in the draft and Toronto the 15th (but Toronto still misses the playoffs).

I think the latest pick they can end up with is 13th.

As things stand right now, yeah. A Phoenix win or a Leafs' loss tonight would guarantee them at least 12th going into the lottery.

What is the lottery situation now Busta? Does every non-playoff team get a ball, and the winner can only move up 5 places?

No, that was the old lottery (well, sort of - it was weighted and 4 spots). Now they all get a weighted shot at the #1 pick.

Oh. I didn't know they could still get the top pick with a lottery win. Nice...

So, in theory, they could win both their remaining games, and still get the number one pick at the draft.

The big change is that last place now has a  25% chance to get #1 overall, before the changes it was 48%.
