Leafs Re-Aquire David Clarkson

If any of this is accurate it may explain why Gardiner hasn?t sign a contract with anyone yet?

The Leafs cap situation is literally the exact same as it was an hour ago. They just have an additional 4th rounder. They only have about $10mil in cap space aka Marner's contract.
How many LTIRs can we have? Bring em on

Why bother making this move? Let Garret move on?

They got a shiny 4th rounder.

They now have 9 picks in rounds 4-7 of next year's draft.

Vegas' AHL affiliate, which is where Sparks will be playing, is Chicago aka Sparks' hometown.

So Dubas is probably doing another player a solid here after realizing that no NHL team would have played him.

Also not a bad call up option if Fleury gets hurt as Subban hasn't exactly been stellar in that role. Quantity over quality

Basically, and taking on Clarkson would have just improved the pick that came in return.

Pretty sure Vegas' interest in Sparks was minimal here.

Maybe. I?m sure they didn?t value him particularly highly, but they might see him as a better #3 option than Dansk.

Dansk has familiarity with the coaching staff having been in their system for a couple years (and putting up a 0.946 Sv% in 4 games with them last season). I'd imagine that barring a massive gap in their AHL performance that Dansk is still firmly the #3. I always wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt, but I don't think it's outrageous to say that Sparks ruined hit shot at the NHL last season.

So if eliminating Sparks small salary and being able to add Clarkson to LTIR means the Leafs have about $10-$10.5 million in cap space, essentially? Does that inch them a bit closer to getting Marner under contract? Are we talking one more minor tinkering move to get this done? Please...

I'm holding out for one more guy on LTIR to make it super obvious what we're doing

If getting one more guy on LTIR will make it clear what we are doing I'm all for it. Because right now I have no idea what the hell we're doing.

This is honestly amazingly fun.

Lets Clarkson retire as a hometown hero Leaf.

Has a player ever been on the same roster as the player he was traded for earlier?

I?m sad that Sparks is out before he gets a chance to redeem himself, but at least there is closure and he gets to go home.

Clark played with Sundin.

If anything, it?s the opposite. They are hedging for the possibility that Marner is not signed prior to the beginning of the season. If he was signed prior to the beginning of the season, this move wouldn?t be necessary.
