I'm actually pretty sure I read about him getting his mask painted for Toronto right when he was picked up. Something must have happened to it.

There are Leafs on it so it might be what he'll wear but either way it's still a strange visual.
He's also still using the old back half from Columbus, it's dark blue with the white star.

I'm sure Mark Stone is great and all but Datsyuk was maybe the best at stealing pucks I've ever seen.

Halfway through the year and Kadri's matched his goals total from last season.

Could he and not JVR be the one getting dangled...?

Nah, not a chance. I mean if someone offered a legit top pairing defencemen then sure, but I can't see anybody offering that for Kadri.

No.  But Kadri + say, Brown or ...?  The point being Kadri's two-way game may make him more attractive as a centerpiece in a trade like that.

Stone got lucky. Dat's is the man there is no comparison !

Maybe it's just me but I really don't think trades work like that. I don't think there's a team who'd be all:

"Should we trade a top pairing defenseman for Nazem Kadri?"

"Nah."

"But we could get Connor Brown too!"

"Make the call"

I think either the big piece gets the job done or not. I don't think throwing on nickels really sways things. Pretty much every big trade in the last little while has been one for one, even in cases like Hall/Larsson or Weber/Subbanm when you could argue there was a clear value imbalance.

Yeah, that could be right.  So: would Kadri + JVR be enough?  And if so, would you?

I don't think that gets it done, but, it's also robbing Peter to pay Paul. The Leafs don't have great depth down the middle - as things stand right now, Kadri looks like he'll be the 2nd line centre going forward, as Nylander's future position is still an unknown. So, you trade him for a top pairing defenceman, you're likely out there looking for a high quality 2nd line centre in a year or two. Once you've thrown in a combination of good young player/prospects/picks, and you're probably looking at a zero sum gain.

That's a pretty open ended question without knowing who'd be coming back. At a quick glance I'd say that the kind of defenseman who'd have to come back in order for them to be worth JVR and Kadri is almost certainly the kind of defenseman who won't be available and honestly, I can't imagine a scenario where that would make sense for the other team.

I know some people aren't excited about the return of JVR for a good D prospect and a first but I think that's the way to go.

Hey, any of you guys ever hear of Jeff Carter? Apparently plays for the Kings?

"Bet you didn't know that, huh?!". How demeaning must that have been for Ron. Pretty sure Ron knew how many Cups he has.

I think Thomas fu_S with that

When Zaitsev winds up to shoot it I can't tell if he's looking to score a goal or to kill someone in the first row.
