Envgall and Lindgren were prospects that were drafted in 2014 and 2015 respectively. Lindholm and Ozhiganov were two European free agent signings that have been rumoured for awhile now.

No doubt Engvall and Lindgren should be Marlies next year.  I wonder if Lindholm and Ozhiganov have out-clauses if they don't play in the NHL?

I really thought Engvall was going to crap out as a prospect, partially because there wasn't much info on him and he was playing in League 1 in Sweden. Then he posted some good numbers in the SEL this year and I followed him while he was on the Marlies in the beginning of the year and he's just exploded in terms of production for someone I thought was going to flame out. Good story for sure.

Lindgren I have no idea about. I thought he was never going to come to the Marlies.

Lindholm: Cool to find a found wallet. Bolsters either 3C or 4C, I wonder what his underlying numbers are and if he can step in and acclimatize faster than Rosen or Borgman.

Ozhiganov: No idea. Scouting report, anyone? I know Kucherov likes him.

This was a bit of a scouting report on Ozhiganov from last October:

https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/411-igor-ozhiganov-russian-defenceman-connected-leafs/

And here's Sportsnet's report on Lindholm:

I probably wouldn't expect anything more than a 6D and 4C from these guys, but free and cheap depth is always nice.

Lindholm had a pretty great season this year- but also had great linemates.  He might be able to do better than 4C, but I'm not holding out too much hope:

Ozhiganov is a right handed D that was used sparingly this year. From what I can gather he's a shutdown kind of guy and that's not a big plus in the KHL. I'm guessing a Polak type D man with more skill, like Zaitsev. There really isn't much on him.
Lindgren is a small right handed D man also. Apparently has good skill speed and smarts who won't shy away from the physical game. Played in Finland this season. Leafs must really like what they see in him seeing the 3 year contract and they didn't need to sign him until next year....
I think Lindholm will be penciled in as our 4th centre with the chance to be a 3rd.
Engvall has pretty much impressed everyone and has taken a huge step forward this season.
We certainly like grabbing those Swedes..

Engvall: yay! needs to continue to work on skating and gaining the confidence to assert himself in the middle ice.

Lindgren: I wasn't sure he'd be signed, but he's an RHD and Grundstrom's best friend, so there are good reasons to keep him in the fold with so many contract slots opening up.

Lindholm: Everything I've heard points to him being a steady defensive centre who can PK and occasionally make a sweet pass.

Ozhiganov: Basically a meaner, more defensive Alexey Marchenko from what I've read.
This is last year's read on him: http://faceoffcircle.ca/2017/08/23/igor-ozhiganov-good-add-leafs-organization/

Igor Ozhiganov
Ozhiganov is a 25-year-old Russian, right-shooting defender, who has spent a lot of time not playing for CSKA in the KHL. The team is a top-ranked team and they went all the way to the final this year, losing to Ak Bars Kazan.

Ozhiganov has been a surplus player all season, and he?s been used primarily as a fourth-unit defender, playing defensive minutes or running out the clock in blowouts. He saw action mostly against lesser teams, and when the playoffs game, he saw mostly the view from up in the stands.

You will hear that CSKA played former Leafs defender Alexei Marchenko ahead of him, and that?s true, but not the whole story.

He does not seem to be a player who produces personal offence. How he plays defensively is difficult to assess from afar. The KHL does not breakdown time on ice by game state, and there is no shot data for that league. All that can be used to assess Ozhiganov?s play is his personal shot rate, his plus/minus or his points.

By those measures... well, he has a great plus/minus considering his usage. We?ll know when training camp comes, what we have here.

Sorry should have posted here:  Dubas is going to make the Maple Leafs great again.  Great signings at no or relatively no cost.  Engvall is a sleeper, perhaps two of the others are as well.

MLHS with a good article on Lindholm here: https://mapleleafshotstove.com/2018/05/18/one-thing-that-stood-out-was-mike-babcocks-early-interest-is-par-lindholm-the-solution-for-the-leafs-at-fourth-line-center/

In it they quote his agent who says that Babcock himself took a liking to him very early on while the Leafs were looking at him.

I hope he's good then otherwise he might become the next Dan Cleary

Babcock is also the one who loves Komarov and said Gardiner was can't remember his exact words but having a strong hockey IQ. Really Mike. WTF his he on?

Anyway I hope the guys pans out cheap 4th line Center and helps the salary cap.

Capfriendly confirmed the contract details for Lindholm, and Ozhiganov. They signed identical 1-year contracts with an AAV of $1,775,000 ($925,000 salary + $850,000 performance bonuses).

The interesting thing about these deals is that they also both contain a 'European Assignment' clause. That means they can choose to return to Europe if they are not on the NHL roster. There aren't any specific details about them right now, but something to keep in mind for later.

The European Assignment clause is a nice deal for all parties. Thankfully their bonuses are both Type A only, as we still have one more year of Matthews' Type B bonus potential to ride out.

The bonus cushion cap is 7.5% of the max cap (e.g. 5.6M-6M if we have an 75-80M cap).

Max Bonuses currently on contract:
Matthews: 2.85M
Marner: 0.850M
Lindholm: 0.850M
Ozhiganov: 0.850M
Rosen: 0.850M
Borgman: 0.850M
T. Moore: 0.850M
Liljegren: 0.400M
Nielsen: 0.233M
Lindgren: 0.183M
Marchment: 0.183M
Brooks: 0.183M
Timashov: 0.165M
Bracco: 0.083M

Matthews, Marner are guaranteed. Assuming Lindholm and Ozhiganov are on the NHL roster, that's 5.4M of the cushion. There is no room for one of Borgman, Rosen, or Moore on top of that if the cap stays under 80M.

This gives a leg up for Dermott (pretty much a lock) and Grundstrom as NHL options as they have no bonuses to worry about.
