I can't see why they would wait until December unless they are planning on Matthews as the Captain.

Maybe this Matthews thing is making them delay the announcement until things mostly blow over? We'll see I guess. I would have thought today was the day.

Tavares is so void of personality, that I have trouble picturing him as the face of the franchise. The captaincy is primarily symbolic, so why not have someone that you can get excited about? Someone who represents the future of the NHL.

Well, there was... that thing...

Exactly. Amazing how fast it's already not a story. If the Leafs picked Matthews before the moon landing, it will be Matthews still.Bullfrog said:CarltonTheBear said:Bullfrog said:I was one of the few that voted Tavares in the poll, so I somewhat saw this coming as a safe vote. The thing that everyone will forget about in a couple of weeks?

If they go with Rielly I'll accept that too. Give it to the longest tenured guy and a backbone of the team. This is only Tavares 2nd season as a Leaf and I think that matters.

Tavares is as boring as they come but Matthews doesn't exactly have an exciting personality. Not to mention what Carlton just mentioned.
And how does he "represent the future of the NHL" any more than Tavares? It's not like Tavares is on the verge of retirement.
Yup and same with Matthews. I think Spezza's getting an A. Don't know why, just think he will be this year's Marleau.Bullfrog said:I would be completely on board with Rielly as the captain.
