Leafs trade for Taylor Beck

I'm curious, has anyone noted how many of these short-terms signings/trades are guys from the GTA?  It seems like quite a few grew up in the area, cheering for the Leafs.

Winnik, Matthias, Beck and Hyman are all from the GTA. Spaling, Parenteau, Arcobello, Marincin and Hunwick aren't.

Considering the number of GTA players in the league it's tough to see that as anything other than a coincidence right now.

Thanks, Nik.  It seemed like that's how things were trending (picking up locals), but I suppose 50% probably isn't all that surprising.

I think that perception is probably compounded by taking Marner and Dermott, both GTA guys to the extent that Newmarket is the GTA, with their top 2 picks as well.

I want this to be the first trade in a long series of trades that parallels the guy who traded from a paperclip to a house in 14 trades.  Jamie Devane is the hockey equivalent of a paperclip, and Taylor Beck is the hockey equivalent of a pen that looks like a fish.  We'll trade Beck for the hockey equivalent of a handmade doorknob, then make another dozen trades, slowly inreasing the trade return value until we've traded for a superstar.

For now, we just need to find our doorknob and trade Beck for him.

I'm a little rusty on how this went, Dylan Strome was the house right?

It's my understanding that Strome is a furnace.

What I like about all this (not including the Kessel trade and we know why that one was made), is that the Leafs continually trade up the talent they have. Taylor Beck is like a BMW compared to Devane's Volkswagon Bus.

That's an insult to Volkswagen! ;)  I'd compare Devane more to an East German manufactured car called the Trablant (aka the Trabbie).  More fitting comparison IMHO. ;D

So we can expect to see Panic, Beck and Holland as a line with the leafs this season. maybe they bring back what they had in the juniors.

Just sitting back and watching what they do with the lazy core the leafs need to get rid of. That season pissed me off.

Yes it was the most despondant Loaf team I have ever seen. Lets hope the light is at the end of the tunnel, cause that was the dark season.

Interestingly last season was the 1st one that I got so fed up that I stopped caring or even watching after 47 years.

I was such a Leaf fanatic all these years that in April when I left my leadership position at my church the other leaders bought me a Leaf flag for my car that they presented me in a public meeting which I graciously accepted and went home and threw in my closet.

I am kind of hoping that the trend of ridiculous decisions is over.  I am just a bit surprised that this years pathetic effort of the Leafs not only killed my hope as an optimistic fan but even nutman.  Ouch!
