Letang wants to be a Leaf?

Pens GM Ray Shero and Kris Letang's agent Kent Hughes slated to meet this afternoon... One last chance to find common ground?

Sounds like we may find out this afternoon or evening whether Letang wants out or was just holding out for more $.

He has another year on his deal right? So, if he wants out, Shero can hold out until the trade deadline, so I don't think this situation is going to go down that quick.

A team like Pittsburgh doesn't move a guy like Letang though at the trade deadline. If he wants out (or the two sides just don't think a deal can be reached), it's either trade him now or let him walk next season.

I get that they would want to end the impasse quick, but if Shero is getting low-balled, I think he'd hold out until the prices go up.

I think one of the things we've seen over the last few years though is that teams typically make their best deals either at the draft or before the draft. I mean, right now Kris Letang comes with a full year of play and exclusive negotiating rights for a year. Holding onto him makes his value go down, not up.

-Free agency begins July 5, and the Penguins do not want to arrive at that date without resolution on Letang's future, the sources said.

I think they want to wrap this up sooner rather than later.

Yeah, I see that angle. Dropping the UFA age seems to be making it harder for teams to keep their players.

I've been told that the Penguins and Kristopher Letang are close to a deal. Small details to resolved and contract will be official. #RDS

Not really surprising. You just can't let guys like this walk.

Wouldn't be the first time a player's used the media as a bargaining tool.
