Lightning @ Leafs - Feb. 29th, 7:30pm - TSN4, Fan 590

Seeing him more in the NHL setting, Nylander looks disinterested in the play away from the puck largely because his skating is so good and fluid he doesn't appear to be trying, plus he has the sense to wait opportunistically for loose pucks rather than muck directly. He just casually takes pucks.

Good to see the young Leafs bring some much-needed excitement (and hope) for us fans.  If it is any indication of the future portent of things to come, then the rebuild is definitely going in a positive direction.

Good also to see Sparks baok in the net.  He's green but the more he plays, the greater he'll improve.  That goes for the rest as well.

Patience, patience...

I think having all these kids on the team will be good for Kadri. I hope it's a real wake-up call (not that he necessarily needs one.) With these "kids", he'll see clearly he's no longer part of that group. Now is the time for him to grab the reins of this team and show that he's the offensive leader.

I can already tell the next few games are going to be roughly a million times more fun to watch than they were over the last few weeks.

Hey Nik, how bout since the Quinn years.

Holland really needs a skilled linemate. He works well with Kadri.

I was thinking earlier that Holland has really squandered an opportunity this year. He has all the tools, but just isn't able to put any consistency into his game.

I like Holland a lot and he needs to have the skill with him for sure. He has the size and the hands and is not afraid to go into the corners.

I saw the future of the Toronto Maple Leafs last night, and it was good.

On offense.  The defense is still very much up in the air, as is the goalie position.

I thought both Loov and Percy were not out of place with their brief stints. This new kid Carrick needs to learn the system but seems fiesty enough.

Also, we should probably manage our expectations here. These guys are still learning to be pros. There is going to be inconsistency and there are going to be mistakes. They won't all necessarily have successful rookie seasons, etc. This is still a long-term process. They're still not likely to be a particularly successful team next season - very easily could be another bottom 5 finish - but, it should be a lot more fun to watch.

Yes it is going to be easy to get ahead of ourselves, there is just so much raw talent coming up and add Marner and Leipsic, Leivo to the mix.

Not sure whose expectations you're referring to, but mine are firmly in check.

Can't we just enjoy one night?

Who didn't?

"I saw the future of the team and it was good."

"Um what you actually saw was a team devoid of defensive or goaltending prospects so why don't you crawl back into your hole of depression."

Roughly from memory.

Wholly from your imagination.

Which, I must add, seems to be weirdly focused on projecting malevolent intent where there is none.  All I pointed out was, you know, the reality of the situation.  That's not incompatible with being glad about all the good things last night.

To be entirely fair the only person who scored a goal last night was Kadri so can we really be all that excited about the forward prospects either?
