Luongo

Corn Flake said:
I would like to unconfirm that there are players about to be traded to an undisclosed team. I am hearing this from a source's untrusted source who just created a twitter account 11 minutes ago. He says he is a player although his avatar is an egg right now. This is IMMINENT.

Imminent AND Eminent!

Take it for what it's worth but Chanel 11(Hamilton) just stated that unconfirmed reports on twitter that Luongo has been traded to the Leafs. No other info.

Well, this should make for a fun day for some people - waiting for something to be announced only for someone respectable to come out and say nothing is happening. Should make some interesting stuff.

@strombone1
Guys something big is about to go down any day now...Talking about the intervention my family is planning for my twitter addiction of course

Or is he? :D

That Strombone account sure has a lot of hockey fans.  Funny.

Probably, yeah. I suppose it doesn't matter until Gillis and Luongo get on the same page anyways.

My guess is, privately, they already know which direction they're going and that they already have similar views of what the next step is. I think everything we've seen is just posturing, one way or the other.

I'm going to suggest the wheels are aready in motion on this, and unless the wheels fall off last minute, the Leafs are going to land Luongo. From everything I've read and watched on the subject it just makes sense for both teams to get this done.

Let's hope it gets done and doesn't cost too much.

Well, it makes sense for Vancouver, but for us, yes we could use the talent, but the contract doesn't make sense.  I know this thread has debated this ad nauseum but I still believe we should get a cheaper alternative for a shorter duration. I think Scrivens can come up and become our goalie of the future if given a chance, but we have to let him and Reimer develop some more at the NHL level.

I think in order to do that you need to have a vet 1A holding the fort while you see if Reimer turns out. You can't hope for years on end for a player to develop. If it doesnt happen you've wasted five years on bad goaltending that could've actually allowed to us to compete in the playoffs.

One more week to the draft.  I can't wait for something to happen.  Hopefully a trade at the draft or just days before.

Agreed. Time will be given to both Scrivens and Reimer in a back-up role and we'll see which of them rises to the challenge. If both of them do, then a trade will help shore up any weakness at another position. Its win-win really.

I don't see how they can both rise to the challenge?  If one of them is backup, the other is in the minors.  You don't usually get good return on a minor league goalie or backup in a trade, unless he's seen as an up and coming star.

There's always injury issues to bring up the 3rd string for a look. Scrivens got a dozen games last season. Even Rynnas got in a few games in if I recall correctly.

Nyucks fans on HFBoards are hilarious, asking for 2 of Huberdeau, Bjustad and Gudbrandson if Luongo goes back to Florida.

Wow, are they ever going to be disappointed when it all shakes out.

One of the deals they seem to expect from the Leafs is Schenn, 2 of Kadri/Colborne/Ashton, 2013 1st, 2012 2nd and Lombardi (apparently, he's the only cap dump contract they'll accept ::)) for Luongo and maybe Malhotra. It's really pretty hilarious.

If thats the case or payment for Lou, forget about it.... They will have him for a while yet. But they still have to unload some $$. Kesler will be out for the first half but when he gets back, somebody needs to go. I for one, am in the NO LU camp.
And, Nash isn?t worth what they are asking either. BB will do the right thing imo.

Tigger said:
Wow, collective amnesia on how they got him I guess, too funny.

Yeah. I mean, if Luongo is traded to the Leafs, my guess is most of us won't be completely happy with what the team had to give up to acquire him, but, I fully expect Nyucks fans to flip out at it. It's not going to be anywhere near the type of return they're talking about.

Canuck's fan opinion of Luongo before he actually requested the trade: BUM, he's not worth anything anyway
After trade request: 7 1st round picks
