Maple Leafs are better, but are they a playoff team?

I think theyre going to miss the playoffs again - by 2 or 4 points ish. Theyve been pretty bad for a month now. 7 point lead on division rivals completely evaporated.

At least the Habs are crap too though. Small consolation.  :-\

tsn's power rankings were more optimistic we were 13th and there wasn't a huge section trying to knock what we achieved in the first half.

Is Cullen still doing that?
ADD - NVM I checked...now I remember why I don't bother with them.

I wouldn't put too much stock into what CBS says.  Rather, look at how the Leafs played the last 3 games including the win over the Wings and how they played at the beginning of the season.  This team has the capability of playing really great hockey and will make the playoffs if they continue to play that way.

It would be nice if the fans at the ACC could turn up the GO LEAFS GO chant and really get behind the team like never before.  It will show the players that they are playing in front of the greatest fans on the planet, it will motivate them to play better and push them towards the playoffs.  I know it's been tough the past 8 seasons, but this is the season in which the team can make the playoffs.

You gotta think this home and home series with Buffalo could provide a pretty good indication on the direction this team will take heading into the back half of the season. It may even answer the question to this thread if they can put 2 convincing wins together and bury the Sabres in the process.

I think every team is a measuring stick until they've pulled 10 points clear of whoever is in 9th place. Both Pittsburgh and Buffalo look to be in free-fall mode.... but everyone else around the Leafs is winning. The only team that I think will falter a little over the next month is Ottawa, given the crazy road schedule they have. Leafs have enough games in hand that they *could* pass them. The key is no slumping. If this team hits a 10 game funk, playoffs are dead. Parity is hell!

if they win again Friday that will be 5 in a row. And if they do that, I predict they'll make it in.

Ottawa seems to be chugging along, but are they deep enough if they run into injuries and how long is their goalie tandem able to keep up with their weak defence. I know they can score from the blue line but they let in alot of goals. I don't follow the sens so I really don't know what kind of depth they have. McLean really has them believing right now.

but if they lose that one and win against the rangers on saturday then no go?

Not at all.  My prediction is simply that somewhere along the way we will need to win 5 in a row if we're to make the playoffs, and that if we do win 5, we will make it.

Ottawa seems like a confident team right now, but, they've been pretty streaky so far this season. They're a hard team to judge. I do get the feeling that they're due for another losing streak/rough stretch.
