They should take care of Doug next.

And on the Doug note, I find it interesting that he is voting on these motions to take away his BROTHER'S powers. If family connection isn't a conflict, I don't know what is.

Well, Ford has now basically been stripped of all the powers that separate him from other council members. At this point, he pretty much is just a figurehead - an unfortunately oafish figurehead.

Good point - never thought of that.

Front page in tomorrow's (Nov 19) NY Times:

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/11/19/world/americas/his-honor-torontos-mayor-rampages-on-to-citys-shame.html?hp

Sample quotes:

TORONTO ? The end did not come for Rob Ford, the mayor of this city, when he proclaimed his proclivity for oral sex on live television.

.....

For the lawmakers and people of Toronto, known to much of the world as a cosmopolitan city with copious bike lanes, hockey?s Maple Leafs and general placidity, the endurance of Mr. Ford, so rotund and erratic that he often appears on the brink of spontaneous explosion, has become nothing short of an obsession.

Please don't take this the wrong way ... I am not piling on to make fun of T.O. -- lord knows we've had our share of the palookas in high places here in the states.  It's just that the buffonery has reached a level of deliciousness unheard of even among people like me who count themselves as connoisseurs of political idiocy.  I have never seen anything remotely like this guy.

Plus the whole scandal gives the American media an excuse to look half-lovingly north of the border, indulging a long-standing affection (though it's usually not too well informed) for Canada.  The tone of the article is quite sympathetic to Torontonians who are embarrassed for their city.

But rest assured, this too shall pass.

The statement from harper is hilarious. They don't mention Ford's name at all but manage to slap Trudeau's name in there.

?Our Government does not condone illegal drug use, especially by elected officials while in office, including Justin Trudeau. We'll continue to work with all levels of government on shared priorities, such as jobs and economic growth. That includes working with mayors and city councils, including the Mayor of Toronto and Toronto City Council.?

It's amazing how many of the mandatory minimums, tough-on-crime Federal Conservatives suddenly are so compassionate about Ford's personal problems.  Tim Harper in the Star had a good article about it.

Rona Ambrose, tough on drugs who fought to end a program that provided heroin to addicts as part of a treatment program, says she doesn't want to pass judgment on someone going through a difficult time.

Julian Fantino: ?I look at it as a humanity issue. I?ve been involved in my whole career (in policing and politics) in dealing with situations where people, for whatever reason, get into serious personal difficulties and family difficulties. I?ve looked at it strictly from a human dynamic point of view.??

Interview with CBC's Peter Mansbridge, Rob Ford claims he's a changed man...

Mansbridge asked Ford about his health. Many on council have said they believe Ford is suffering from alcoholism, substance abuse and other health issues that limit his ability to do his job. Ford downplayed suggestions that he is ill, and said his main focus is losing weight.

"I've drank in excess a few times and admitted to drug use," he said. "I'm not a drug addict and I'm not an alcoholic. I'm getting punished for the Friday and Saturday nights when I've decided to have a few drinks. This is personal."

Mansbridge asked Ford if he's been drunk while driving. Ford told Mansbridge he hasn't driven while drunk but may have driven after moderate drinking.
"All of us have done this," said Ford. "Whoever has a licence. You've gone to a dinner party or a restaurant with your wife and had a glass of wine. Do you drive? Absolutely you drive. I've never been drunk and driven."

Ford answered "no" when Mansbridge asked if the mayor did crack more than once during his time as mayor.

Ford also said he's purchased marijuana during his time as mayor.

Ford said he is getting help for "his personal issues,"..."I'm training every day."
"I haven't touched a drop of alcohol in three weeks. I've let a lot of people down," he said.

Ford also said he will seek re-election next October and will do away with "excessive, stupid, immature behaviour."

"If you don't see a difference in me in five months, then I'll eat my words," he said. "I've had a come-to-Jesus moment if you want to call it that. I've let my dad down, I know he's upstairs watching this."

So he's not an alcoholic but he's given up alcohol?  If he's not an alcoholic why would he need to give up drinking?  Let's just say I have my doubts.

Yeah. I don't buy that, either. Or the massive personality overhaul he claims to be planning on undertaking.

Well at least he said he will start eating his words from now on. Its better than what he usually eats.

He has said this for every controversy that he has been involved with, dating back years, so I don't see why this vow would be any more binding than his other useless ones.

if he wasn't an alcoholic he wouldn't have trouble not showing up in public drunk...but this isn't really ford lying ..this is more a lack of self awareness .....rob ford isn't denying his alcoholism to us...he's doing it to himself...and though i don't like the guy...in that regard.i think he's fairly human

Not any more, it was cancelled after one episode.

Yup.

Apparently, yesterday?s episode took whopping five hours to shoot and another eight hours to edit.

And, from those 13 hours, they had 16 and a half minutes of content.
