Mayor Rob Ford

Seriously, how is it even possible that he has support at this point? Forget politics for a second, even if you believe in Ford's agenda chapter and verse surely there has to be someone who can run with those principles who isn't, you know, a crack using buffoon who is making our city the world's laughingstock.

The American talk show hosts -- Jimmy Kimmel, Leno and Stewart are having a ball with this whole scandal fiasco.

So is everyone else, from the England to Europe to Asia and back.

Thank you soooo much Mr. Mayor for having given our Toronto the kind of worldwide exposure we can only dream of.
Wonderful!  (*applause, applause*)

Interesting here at work today to say the least... I'm floored by how many people here are still supporting him. There are actually people here who are standing up for him despite the fact he's a crack smoking liar with zero credibility.

One guy at the office said the media is hypocritical because they've probably smoked dope before. I'm just floored.

Yeah. The story's gone viral. He's now embarrassed the whole country, not just Toronto....

I'll bet SNL will get in on this as well on their weekend update. Too bad it's a rerun this Saturday.

I don't think the rest of the country cares - they're probably enjoying this, what with the universal dislike of Toronto that seems to exist out there.

This could be a whole new schtick for Jeff Foxworthy:

"If you find yourself using the expression "in one of my drunken stupors" while publicly explaining about the time you smoked crack cocaine? you might be an alcoholic."

What does he say about the months of lying, deceiving, etc?  And the slandering of the media as liars, among other names?

I think that stuff is bothering people as much.

Exactly. Plus he seems to believe there are no consequences for his actions.  he can just apologize and gets off without a hitch, according to him.

While at the same time he's calling for some city employee to be fired along with his boss for being photographed asleep on the job, with no interest in finding out what happened.  He is also quoted from years ago about drug addicts, etc.

I think that what bothers me the most right now. He just says "I'm sorry" without really meaning it and all consequences are supposed to disappear because he loves his job? I'm sorry, but that's not how the real world is supposed to work.

I like how he thinks he 'probably' smoked crack during a drunken stupor like he doesn't remember due to his drunkness.  I'm pretty sure he'd remember having to 'come down' from more than just alcohol the next day.

"I reflected on it last night, and talked to my family. I came forward and admitted it. That's all I can do. I mean, I'm not perfect," said Ford.

Sound familiar?  This wasn't from yesterday, this was his apology from the Leaf game ordeal back in 2006.

Admitting you have a problem is one step - but obviously he hasn't had success kicking his substance abuse issues (be it alcohol, cocaine, etc).

I think what he needs to do is concoct a public, televised weekly event that documents his ongoing battle against his substance abuse problems. He and his brother can both take part. Can't imagine anything going wrong with that idea...

What are the consequences though? Stepping down as mayor isn't a consequence, it's a choice. Head far a I know, he can't be forced out of office unless he is charged criminally. Election time is coming. He may have to face the music then.

Beyond that it was like he was using the fact that he was drunk as an excuse for anything else he might have consumed. Like that made it all ok or that it wasn't really his decision because he was drunk and therefore couldn't be faulted for his actions. That's the vibe I got anyway.

I guess this would have also been his defense had their been a video of him grabbing that woman's ass....i wonder what the limits of the "i was drunk" defense are....

I'm sorry i ran over your child..i was drunk....
I'm sorry i raped someone..i was drunk...
I'm sorry that i ran for mayor ..lied to the people and did crack cocaine... i was drunk

The scary thing is this excuse is actually used pretty often...
