Alright this conversation is thrilling but if there's nothing else to add beyond "you said this" and "no I didn't" then maybe take a break guys.

I'm sorry but I think if someone is outright lying about what I've said I think it's right for me to take issue with it.

I absolutely 100% agree. But integral to our ability to have any sort of meaningful discussions with each other is being honest about what is being said.
AtomicMapleLeaf said:I agree with you Nik, but I also think that there are scenarios that someone should just stay out of the weeds. With that said, don't change anything about what you post. I don't think you have ever "crossed the line" and I enjoy your posts immensely.
Is Marner really going to sign an offer sheet? He?s going to leave Toronto, a team universally accepted to be among the top tier of teams with a chance to win the Stanley Cup (where he plays nice minutes with great linemates and features as a star) purely for more short-term dollars, setting the bridge back to his home city aflame for the foreseeable future?
Guilt Trip said:No he probably wouldn't have but I'll give him credit, he was very upfront with Boston about it from the start.Zee said:Guilt Trip said:Haha, no kidding.RedLeaf said:Some people think they know more then the rest of us. :
That's how it worked when Burke traded for Kessel. He told Boston he'd offer sheet him but would prefer a trade.Zee said:Bates said:So yesterday on Leaf's Lunch Lebrun was saying that many agents hate the talk period as every team that is looking for a winger, his example, phones every winger available and goes through the process to see what it would take and then makes a pitch to the one or two that best suits them. I would like to believe him but Nik told me this doesn't happen as agents only talk to folks with serious offers??? I'm back to whete we started, Dubas should be talking to every agent that has a player available on Monday.
Even if it doesn't come to an RFA contract offer it could lead to a team working out a trade for said RFA since that's generally more "acceptable" to the old boys club. So yes, calling everyone to see where they're at is valuable.
That worked out extremely well for the Bruins, but I think it was hot air from Burke. He would have never presented an offer sheet after he was so vocal about Lowe doing it to him.
Lebrun doesn't know what hes talking about....lolBates said:Lebrun and agents don't agree.

Do we have to hate him more than, as much as, or less than we hate Nylander?
(And you can also quantify that with pre and post hold out Nylander for extra emphasis)

I might be the wrong person to answer this because I've always been slightly more of a Nylander fan just on a personal level (although I was open to trading him when his contract talks dragged into the season, so it's not a blind love). But from what I've seen both in different places online and in real life the scorn for Marner is at a much higher level. Especially when you compare the two to this same point in their offseason negotiations. The offer sheet threats would be a big reason for that I'd imagine.

I think the scorn for Marner comes from the onslaught from Dreger who is basically parroting Darren Ferris's comments. People were annoyed with the Nylander situation, but we heard nothing from his camp at all. With Marner you've had the entire Ferris situation back in Feb when he went on a radio tour after Matthews signed, and now this.

I'd say it was the report that he intends to talk to other teams. It's rare that an RFA publically says he'll be speaking to other teams. Whether that report is true, came from Dreger, or whatever, it's what rubs people the wrong way. There's an expectation of loyalty and that sort of comment will aggravate a fanbase.
