Earlier in the year there was a debate "did we draft the right guy taking Marner? We could have had Hanifin"

Marner 4 points
Hanifin -3

Case closed.

Lets see what happens against Werenski tonight.

Werenski is out with an injury.

So clearly the Leafs made the right choice!
Hot takes are my specialty. I'm here all week!!

Mitch, you have to do this more often. You have the technology.

;D  Good one

The stickhandling in his 2nd rush late, where he took an almost identical  shot but didn't score, was even better IMO.

They've got Mitchy looping down behind the breakout defenseman and hitting the neutral zone with speed to attack the trap wall in full flight. Numerous times Mitchy has gotten past the forwards, made a move on the defensemen and ripped off a shot. A few times he's scored now. Willy can do it too. Awesome.

I would like to see the Leafs eventually try Marner at center. I think it would give him more open ice for his creativity. I think he's committed enough to become responsible defensively. He's 50% on a small sample size of face-off this year, and it's not like he doesn't have any experience playing center in junior (not same as NHL), but at least he's played there. If Bozak goes, that would allow either Brown or Kapanen to slide into the right side, and that line would probably be just as good, if not better. I like Willie with Matthews.

I think the issue there is that he'd be much more likely to be at a physical disadvantage when playing against the other team's center than he is now against wingers and defencemen.

Mitchy getting his 93 from the London Knights would've been a good fit, considering the similarities in body-type combined with a high standard of play  ;)

Why is Mitch not playing for Canada at the World championships this year? Did I miss something ? It would have been a great opportunity to show Hockey Canada that he belongs among Canada?s best .

Hockey Canada wanted to add the Maple Leafs winger for the world hockey championship in Denmark, but after a weekend of hemming and hawing, Marner turned down the invitation.

Marner wanted to go, but decided in the end to heal from bumps and bruises that came with being the Leafs? best player in an intense first-round series against the Boston Bruins.

Thanks Herman. I figured I missed the news but wasn?t sure. Too bad he passed but it?s understandable . He going to be a fixture on team Canada for years to come I?d imagine .

No problem. It would've been cool to see him there. I'm okay with the Big Three electing to rest up and prepare for next year too, seeing how much there is to work on. Also hoping they'll all be very unavailable for the World Championship for many years to come.

I was sort of hoping to see Marner on a line with McDavid to see what sort of chemistry they had together . Perhaps at the next World Cup. Like you said hopefully Marner won?t be available for the next 10-15 years of these tournaments :)

We could see that combo if the Oilers would just trade McDavid to us.

How much would you be willing to throw in to the deal to make that happen?
Would Matthews & Nylander do it?

I was thinking more of a package of Matt Martin, and the rights to JVR, Komarov and Bozak

Throw in Polak and you have a deal.

This pullquote is from Steve Simmons' piece stream of consciousness about Mitch Marner's price and it may or may not have come from the same person that sold him on the hot dogs.

The quote in context:
Why did the Arizona Coyotes pass on Marner and draft Dylan Strome? Two reasons, I?m told. One, they needed a centre. Two, the analytic heavy Coyotes did not like the numbers of Marner?s zone entries in his draft year at London ? Mike Babcock is not a fan of the zone entry statistic. He thinks it?s mumbo jumbo. He thinks three quarters of the zone entries don?t factor in the game at all, rendering the stat rather meaningless ?
