A number of online sources say Antropov became a Canadian citizen.  A couple are pay-locked but here's one that isn't:

Nik Antropov became a Canadian citizen in May. A month later, he accepted a two-year extension worth US$4-million to remain a Maple Leaf.

His biography on Eliteprospects.com mentions it, as does his Wikipedia page.  A couple articles collected here from 2005 where he states his plans to become a Canadian citizen.

But has he formally changed his surname to Anrtropov?

Have you tried pronouncing that out loud?

Yeah, I still think they're confusing him with Poni.

Not sure if being sarcastic, but if not, Ponikarovsky became a Canadian citizen in June 2007.

Nik Antropov and Alexei Ponikarovsky: Identified primarily by their birthplaces, Kazakhstan and the Ukraine, both players are Canadian citizens

Despite the distance between them during the season, the pair said they remain close and both have become Canadian citizens and make their off-season homes in Toronto.

Yeah...I still think they're confusing him with Poni. With Poni they wrote a story about the ceremony and everything.

I don't care what the others say Nik, I believed you pages ago.

Maybe they were confusing Poni with Antropov...

If somebody feels so inclined, Antropov's son Danil is on Twitter;  you can maybe politely ask him about his dad's status in Canada.

How sure can we be his son won't also confuse him with Ponikarovsky?

Here is retrospective article (dated March 2015) from a former senior editor of the Toronto Sun, (who was involved in the promotion of the 2001 Toronto Maple Leafs Daily Planner as a fundraiser for SickKids), and includes pictures, etc. of various Leafs players from that time including the Antropovs, as well as some updated info of each:

Today Nik is still playing hockey in the KHL where he is captain of Barys Astana in his native Kazakhstan (although he also became a Canadian citizen in 2007 while playing with the Leafs)
