I kind of hope he goes back to Sweden, good development league and the Leafs would save a year on his ELC.

If he plays in the AHL his contract would still slide as long as he doesn't play 10 or more games with the Leafs. So he could possibly be playing professional hockey in NA for 4 (or maybe even 5) years on his ELC.

Fair enough, though add that on to another year of development in Sweden and I'm pretty ok with it.

Is there a reason you would want him in Sweden over the AHL?

If he plays in Sweden he gets paid more correct? If so it is better for him.

Right.......but he plays on the big ice no? I would've thought his getting used to the North American game would be a bigger priority than him getting paid more. Unless you're being funny.
Either place is fine. He needs to add some size before getting into NHL IMO.

I can think of a few reasons for Sweden just like I can think of some for the AHL but I don't really know the young man and we'll have to wait and see what he shows at camp, personally I'm just looking at hedging the entry level bet at this point, at least until I know more, potentially better bang for the buck and such.

There won't be any difference regarding his ELC though if he plays in the AHL as opposed to the SEL. Well, except for that he'll be available to the Leafs if he stays in NA.

So according to the newest episode of The Leafs (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=st2S4ZKluDc @ 9:10), St. Louis offered the Leafs their 21st, 33rd, and 52nd picks for the Leafs 5th overall pick right before they nabbed Nylander. A 1st and two 2nds.

It didn't seem like the Leafs gave it much thought, probably rightfully so. Although in hindsight when you look at who St. Louis got with those picks, particularly Fabbri and Barbashev, it might not have been so bad as both those guys were projected mid-1st round picks. Still, the Leafs would have had no way of knowing those guys would have been available there, and there's no guarantee they would have picked them anyway, so good non-trade for me.

It's a tough call as the Leafs needed the sort of high ceiling prospect that Nylander looks like on the other hand they probably also need depth and there were some pretty good prospects taken in the 20's and 30's. On the whole of it I probably don't make that trade but it's not crazy to consider.

It's exactly the same thing phrased differently, but I view the offer as the 33rd and 52nd picks to drop from 5th to 21st.  That's a huge drop to me, regardless of the tripling of picks.  I'm happy they didn't do it.

Ditto, well said.
