Official Ottawa Senators Thread

It's still very funny the way the modern Senators pretend that they're in any way associated with an entirely different franchise of the same name from nearly a century ago.

Will you feel the same about Winnipeg doing it almost 2 decades later?

Winnipeg is quite different because there are actually people alive who remember watching the old jets and now have the opportunity to watch the new ones.

And to be honest, the player and management composition of leafs (or any other team) then and now has just about as much in common as the jets then and now.

Man, that's a depressing 20th anniversary banner.

Anyway, I'm in Ottawa for the next year or more, so I'll be raking in all the perks of living here, like catching the Sens and Pens rookie game on Rogers TV today. Score!

Sure. Although it's not like Winnipeg has much in the way of previous success to tie themselves to.

Yeah, but, the franchise that was originally the Winnipeg Jets still exists, unlike the former Ottawa team, which went belly up shortly after they left Ottawa for St Louis. If the new Jets claimed the history of the old Jets as their own, they're be co-opting the history of an existing franchise.

New banners put up at the Sc'ank for the 20th anniversary.

Looks neat.  I like having the older players there, but it doesn't make much sense to be pulling players from nearly a century ago for your 20th annivers-

Wait a minute.

Is that what I think it is?

Aside from the two players from the Silver Seven era I don't see how they're tying themselves to any previous success in that banner. I'd agree with you if there was picture of the original Senators with the SC in the banner.

There's seven players in that banner - the 5 main players in that portrait are from the modern day Sens. The two older ones kind of "book-ending" the photo are there more for reference.

So, aside from near a third of the banner you don't see how they're doing it? Fair enough.

Similarly

You know, aside from Eric Clapton, I don't really think Cream did have a guitar player.

Aside from Godfather 3, The Godfather movies are really a perfect movie trilogy.

And so on.

Boy when you decide to omit the second sentence of my post to make your point you can sure make me look like a jackass!

It's just a picture Nik.
